Distinct | North America in Markham is seeking a Manager for the Private Enterprise practice. This role focuses on owner-managed businesses, handling compilation engagements, year-end accounting and corporate tax with hands-on mentorship.

You will lead reviews, mentor staff and work with a client portfolio that offers cross-border exposure. The position is hybrid with significant partner involvement and progression potential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Canadian CPA firm/public accounting experience.
• 2+ years at Manager level preferred.
• Experience reviewing financial statements and staff work.
• Private Enterprise/owner-managed business exposure.
• Good T2 corporate tax knowledge.
• CPA preferred but not essential for someone with strong relevant experience.
• CaseWare, TaxPrep, iFirm, Sage or QuickBooks experience useful.
• U.S./cross-border tax exposure would be a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and review compilation engagements.
• Review working papers and financial statements.
• Resolve accounting issues before files reach the Partners.
• Manage engagement workflow, deadlines and client relationships.
• Review T2 corporate tax returns and related schedules.
• Review T1 returns during tax season.
• Coach junior, intermediate and senior staff.
• Identify accounting, tax and planning opportunities for clients.
• Remain hands-on with files when required.

There comes a point in public accounting where preparing the file is no longer the difficult bit.

The difficult bit is spotting what everyone else missed.

This Manager opportunity with a growing CPA firm in Markham is built around exactly that.

You’ll join its Private Enterprise practice, working predominantly with owner-managed businesses across compilation engagements, year-end accounting and corporate tax. Around 75% of the role is review-focused, but this is still a hands‑on firm where Managers are expected to get into the detail when needed.

The usual schedule is around 3 days per week in office, with greater attendance during heavier periods and busy season.
