Job summary

BPP North America is seeking an experienced Payroll and Benefits Manager to lead all payroll and benefits activities across the group. You will partner with Finance, HR and senior leadership to ensure accurate payroll processing, robust benefits programs and compliant year-end activities.

The role requires knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, strong Excel skills, and a proven ability to lead payroll teams while driving process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting, Payroll or related field.
  • Certified PCP or PCM with the Canadian Payroll Association.
  • Minimum 2 years of payroll experience including year-end processing and benefits administration.
  • Experience with ADP, WFN, Sage MicrOpay or similar systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Payroll Operations for North America entities with accurate, timely processing.
  • Oversee benefits, pension, leave programs, and payroll-related payments.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, audits, and filings.
  • Supervise payroll staff and provide guidance to HR and Finance.
  • Lead process improvements in payroll and benefits delivery.

BPP North America have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced and diligent individual to join the HR team as a Payroll and Benefits Manager.

In this role you will be responsible for leading and overseeing all activities related to Payroll and Benefits across the Group, and taking ownership of an excellent standard of delivery for our employees.

What you’ll be doing

You will provide expert guidance on payroll legislation, taxation, benefits administration and employee reward programmes. You’ll partner with Finance, HR and senior leadership to ensure that compensation and benefits programmes are administered effectively.

Your responsibilities include:
Payroll Operations
  • Manage the full payroll cycle for the assigned North America entities, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Administer payroll systems, employee onboarding, employee changes, and self-service portal maintenance.
  • Process termination and final payments and maintain payroll records and file.
Compliance & Governance
  • Lead year-end payroll activities, including payroll close, T4 preparation, and tax reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, government regulations, audits, and required filings.
  • Maintain WCB reporting requirements and support internal and external audits.
Benefits & Pension Administration
  • Oversee employee benefits, pension, RRSP, and leave programs, including enrolment, deductions, billing, and reporting.
  • Administer annual leave, parental leave, disability claims, and medical leaves of absence.
  • Coordinate payroll-related payments for benefits, pensions, health insurance, and Employer Health Tax.
  • Maintain relationships with benefit carriers, pension providers, and other third-party vendors.
Leadership & Process Improvement
  • Supervise and support payroll administration staff.
  • Provide payroll and benefits guidance to employees, managers, and stakeholders.
  • Lead payroll, benefits, pension, and reporting projects to improve processes, systems, and service delivery.
What we’re looking for

To be successful in this role you will need to have a proven track record in the following areas:

  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting, Payroll, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified as a PCP or PCM with the Canadian Payroll Association
  • Minimum 2 years of payroll experience, including payroll administration, year-end processing, benefits, and pension administration.
  • Required experience with ADP, WFN, Sage MicrOpay, or similar payroll systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, tax regulations, pension plans, benefits, and payroll compliance requirements.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with strong analytical and reporting capabilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
