Job summary

YVR is seeking a permanent, full-time Manager, Operations Centre within the Airport Operations Department in Vancouver. You will lead real-time response to incidents airside, groundside and in the terminal, guiding a day-to-day operations team to ensure safe and secure movement of people, planes and baggage.

Position overview

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Manager, Operations Centre in the Airport Operations Department. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations Centre, the successful candidate provides leadership to the people, contractors and oversees processes to ensure the safe and secure movement of people, planes and baggage. This includes responsibility for real time response to any situations that arise airside, groundside and in the terminal. It is accountable for the decisions, actions and results of the day-to-day operations team.

The Manager, Operations Centre represents the organization as a whole outside of business hours and in any real time incident, with a focus on mitigating risk by promoting a safe and secure operation while focusing on business continuity.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Direct multi-agency response to any airport emergency which includes negotiating with business partners, government agencies and other Airport Authority departments that may have competing interests.
  • Oversee the execution of airport programs and contractor activities as well as monitor airport and customer key performance indicators using a variety of systems.
  • Provide incident management and apply incident command best practices, including assessment of risk and threats according to defined protocols and procedures.
  • Real time management of the airport with the accountability to oversee the day-to-day operations of all airport activity airside, groundside and in the terminal.
  • Leadership of multi-functional teams in a 12-hour shift that includes the responsibility for providing guidance to all roles and is accountable for the decisions made or actions undertaken to resolve operational, safety, security and customer care issues.
  • Plan and implement any strategic objectives for the IOC (Integrated Operations Centre).
Key qualifications include:
  • At least five years' experience working in an aviation or operational decision-making role supplemented by a post-secondary degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of all aspects of airport operations including, but not limited to: emergency response and management procedures, airline operations, airfield maintenance, lease management, noise management, air traffic control operations, workplace health and safety practices and airport security measures.
  • Minimum five years of proven leadership and people management experience, preferably in an operational environment with knowledge of acts, standards, and regulations governing airport operations, along with associated policies, programs and procedures.
  • Strong communication and writing skills in English – bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment as well as proven customer focus in order to serve tenants and travellers in an ever-changing environment.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills necessary to manage operational and emergency situations as well as strong commitment to health and safety with the ability to work safely and effectively under pressure.

Although not required, French language skills are an asset as we are committed to providing bilingual services to our visitors and passengers. Shift and weekend work are required as the Integrated Operations Centre is a 24/7 operation.
