McEwen & Associates Ltd. in Mississauga seeks a hands-on Manager, Operations & Finance to own core accounting processes from bookkeeping to payroll and monthly reporting.

Based on-site, you will collaborate across staff to ensure compliant, efficient operations and clear expectations. You will drive improvements while maintaining detailed financial records, monitoring cash flow, and supporting year-end activities with external accountants.

Qualificações

  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance or related field.
  • CPA designation is considered an asset.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on finance or operations experience.
  • Experience with bookkeeping, payroll and government remittances.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting software (Sage, QuickBooks) and MS Office.
  • Solid understanding of Canadian payroll and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; clear written and oral communication in English.

Responsabilidades

  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping including accounts payable/receivable and GL maintenance.
  • Process payroll and ensure accuracy and timely completion.
  • Prepare and submit government remittances (HST, EHT, WSIB, payroll deductions).
  • Complete monthly reconciliations and support month-end close.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure policy compliance.
  • Support financial reporting (budget vs actuals, cash flow).
  • Collaborate with external accountants for year-end activities.

As the Manager, Operations & Finance, you will play a key role in keeping our day-to-day financial and operational functions running smoothly.

You will take ownership of our core accounting processes, from bookkeeping and payroll to government remittances and monthly reporting. At the same time, you will work closely with staff across the organization to ensure processes are followed, expectations are clear, and operations are running efficiently.

This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys being hands-on in the details while also improving how things are done.

Based at our Mississauga location, this is a full-time, in-office position, requiring consistent on-site presence to support day-to-day operations and team collaboration.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

The core responsibilities of our Manager, Operations and Finance, include but are not limited to:

Finance & Accounting

  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance
  • Process payroll and ensure all related activities are accurate and completed on time
  • Prepare and submit government remittances (HST, EHT, WSIB, payroll deductions, etc.)
  • Complete monthly reconciliations and support the month-end close process
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with internal policies and accounting standards
  • Support the preparation of financial reports, including budget vs. actuals and cash flow tracking
  • Work with external accountants to support year-end activities and filings

Operations

  • Support the day-to-day operations of the business with a focus on consistency and efficiency
  • Establish and reinforce processes related to expense reporting, approvals, and documentation
  • Work directly with staff to ensure compliance with financial and administrative procedures
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows and implement practical solutions
  • Support internal systems used for financial and operational tracking

Working with Our Team

  • Act as a key point of contact for staff on finance and operational questions
  • Guide employees on expense submissions, time tracking, and administrative processes with clear expectations and follow up to ensure deadlines and standards are met
  • Support leadership in strengthening internal processes and accountability across the team

About You

The successful candidate will need to be comfortable taking ownership and getting into the details, while also stepping back to improve how things work.

You communicate clearly, follow through on expectations, and are not afraid to hold others accountable when needed. You enjoy working with people and take pride in keeping things organized, accurate, and running smoothly.

Your achievements are:

  • post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • CPA designation (or working towards it) is considered an asset
  • 3–5 years of experience in a hands-on finance or operations role
  • experience with bookkeeping, payroll, and government remittances
  • strong knowledge of accounting software (Sage, QuickBooks, or similar) andfamiliarity with Microsoft Office software applications
  • a solid understanding of Canadian payroll and regulatory requirements
  • excellent problem-solving skills
  • strong written and oral communication skills in English, with the ability to brief stakeholders on complex issues in a succinct manner
  • positive, “can do”, personal attitude coupled with natural curiosity
  • ability to work under stressful conditions
  • experience working in a small to mid-sized organization is an asset
  • relate well to clients and co-workers
