Manager of Facilities Operations

Permanent Full-time - 35 Hours Per Week - Monday to Friday - 12 months (1.0 FTE)

Salary range: $122,135 to $138,788

Start date: Immediately; Duration: Permanent

Reporting to the Sr. Manager Of Facilities and Construction, the Manager of Facility Operations is responsible for managing the Board’s Caretaking Services, Maintenance Services, and Environmental Services. The role ensures the efficient operation of all mechanical/electrical systems, optimal environmental control, caretaking, cleaning, and general maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds.

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager of Facilities and Construction
WORK LOCATION(S) AND WORK TIME(S): Catholic Education Centre

Candidates must possess:

  • Successful completion of a university degree, or equivalent, in Facilities Management, Building Services, Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in facilities management and maintenance supervision.
  • Working knowledge of relevant building codes, fire codes, bylaws, and requirements from the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Health, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
  • Experience in operation and maintenance of building automation, security, mechanical, electrical, and water management systems, with knowledge of architectural systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with trustees, administrators, staff, outside agencies, and others.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with experience managing multiple projects.
  • Proven managerial and supervisory skills, including experience in a unionized environment, with positive leadership abilities.
  • Experience with Facility Management technologies.
  • Advanced computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, Adobe, and mandated software.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and research skills.
  • Effective oral, written, and listening communication skills.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Experience working with a large employer with multiple conditions and bargaining agreements.
  • Experience in education sector is an asset.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating Facilities policies and procedures.
  • Providing leadership to foster an environment of excellence, service, productivity, and fairness.
  • Supervising and supporting Facilities Department staff, including hiring, training, evaluations, and professional development.
  • Assisting with budget preparation and maintaining budget control.
  • Setting strategic direction and managing operations and maintenance of all facilities.
  • Ensuring data accuracy in databases and software systems related to utilities, capital, and assets.
  • Preparing long-term plans, including capital and conservation initiatives.
  • Participating in community engagement and compliance activities with municipal and governmental bodies.
  • Managing utility, recycling, waste, hazardous waste, and energy management systems.
  • Overseeing portable classrooms' relocation, installation, and maintenance.
  • Ensuring legislative compliance and liaising with relevant departments.
  • Managing security, surveillance, snow removal, landscaping, and other contracts.
  • Driving continuous improvement in services and participating in management teams and committees.
  • Overseeing construction projects, including contractor coordination and cost management.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Business and Treasurer.
