West Coast LEAF (WCL) is a feminist legal advocacy organization based in Vancouver, BC, on the homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and səlílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Through litigation, law reform and public legal education, we work toward gender justice in collaboration with people and communities most affected by overlapping systems of oppression. We are committed to decolonization, anti-racism, accessibility, movement solidarity and meaningful accountability.
We are a provincially based non-profit society and federally registered charity, funded through a mix of foundation and government grants, individual donations and sponsorships of our annual International Women’s Day Equality Breakfast. WCL is a unionized workplace.
WCL is seeking a Manager of Community Engagement to develop and steward community relationships, coalition partnerships and organizational accountability. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager will support reciprocal engagement with communities, movements, coalitions and partners connected to WCL’s work. The Manager will combine relationship-building, project leadership and practical follow-through and help ensure that community knowledge and lived experience inform WCL’s advocacy, public legal education, organizational learning and strategic direction.
The position provides leadership for key engagement initiatives, notably the Family Well-being Coalition, supports relationships with communities and coalition partners, collaborates on cross-organizational projects, supports the Indigenous Advisory Circle and strengthens community-engagement practices across WCL. The role is also responsible for project planning and management of key grants.
We are looking for someone with strengths in relationship-building, facilitation and project management who enjoys working collaboratively and building trust across diverse communities and partners. This 3-year position is funded by multiple grants and is part of the Union, with occasional travel and meetings outside of regular business hours.
You are a skilled relationship-builder who values reciprocity, accountability and community-centred practices. You understand that meaningful engagement requires listening, trust, transparency and follow-through. You enjoy bringing people together, facilitating conversations and building connections across diverse perspectives on complex issues.
You understand community engagement as more than consultation. You can help create accessible and meaningful opportunities for participation, clarify purpose and expectations and support feedback loops between communities and organizations. You are a thoughtful collaborator who works with humility and is comfortable navigating shared accountability while respecting the distinct roles of colleagues, leadership and community partners.
WCL encourages applications from people with diverse experiences and perspectives, including Indigenous people, racialized people, people with disabilities, people from 2SLGBTQ+ communities, newcomers and people with relevant lived experience.
Candidates may self-identify any knowledge, experience or perspective they would bring to advance WCL’s commitment to equity and inclusion. Accommodation is available throughout recruitment and employment. Applications are kept confidential.
