Job description

Organizational Profile

For over 40 years, West Coast LEAF (WCL) has worked to bring its vision of an equal and just society closer to reality through litigation, law reform, and public legal education, in collaboration with communities most affected. WCL’s systemic advocacy for gender justice is rooted in intersectional, inclusive feminism, relationship-building, and sustained community engagement. WCL centres the people and communities most impacted by overlapping systems of oppression, including colonialism, patriarchy, racism, and ableism in its work for transformative change. Focused primarily on legal issues that affect people in BC, the organization also acts on matters of national significance. WCL is a provincially based non-profit society and federally registered charity, funded through a mix of foundation and government grants, individual donations, and sponsorships. WCL is a unionized workplace.

About the Role

Reporting to an engaged, governance-focused Board of Directors, the Executive Director leads WCL in its mission to advance gender justice and substantive equality. The Executive Director sets strategic direction alongside the Board; champions the organization's legal and public education work; stewards relationships with community partners, funders, governments, and the broader sector; and is ultimately accountable for the organization's finances, operations, and people. The Executive Director brings clarity and care to their leadership, fostering a healthy, values-aligned workplace. This is an exciting opportunity for a progressive, values-driven leader with a demonstrated commitment to advancing gender justice and human rights. The ideal candidate has at least five years of progressive senior leadership experience in the non-profit sector (equivalent experience in other sectors will be considered). The Executive Director brings a strong track record in fund development, supporting high-performing teams, and turning strategy into action. They also bring experience with non-profit governance, community engagement, and intersectional feminist advocacy.

WCL is strongly committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. WCL acknowledges the expertise applicants may bring relating to their Indigeneity, race, place of origin, immigration status, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, family status, and socio-economic status. WCL encourages applicants to self-identify personal characteristics or experiences that would support its commitment to bringing diverse perspective to the organization, if they feel comfortable doing so. Candidates are also welcome to identify any access needs they may have during the hiring process.

The salary for this full-time position is $125,000 - $135,000 supplemented by a competitive total compensation package. This is a full-time, hybrid position with a minimum of two days per week on-site at WCL’s downtown Vancouver office.
