Western Forest Products have a new opportunity for a Manager, IT Infrastructure & Security in Vancouver, BC.

What You'll Do : The Manager, IT Infrastructure and Security is accountable for IT strategic and tactical planning, resource management, hiring and the development, motivation, and performance management of the IT Infrastructure and Security team. The team comprises employees, contractors and vendors. You play a key role in the implementation of large scale business systems and technology solutions that are dynamically improving our business productivity, management decision making and our overall cyber security posture. You will also be responsible for fostering existing and building new vendor partnerships that will collaboratively work with the IT team to achieve strategic business outcomes with a technology focus.

Who You Are : The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of experience in IT, with at least 5 in IT leadership. We are looking for a self-motivated leader with a strong sense of initiative, excellent business acumen and the ability to break down complex information into the general business language. The ideal candidate has a post-secondary education in Computer Science / Management Information systems.

Work Environment : This role is to be performed out of our downtown office in Vancouver, B.C.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership in the development of the company's strategic and tactical information technology plan, assisting in the guiding of the business direction in new and existing products, processes, and systems.

Planning

  • Compile and execute on an IT strategy that is developed in conjunction with key business stakeholders and the IT leadership team;
  • Research, design and implement the appropriate technologies and processes to support and improve corporate functions, end-user productivity and access to timely and accurate information to generate key business metrics and analytics to support management decision making;
  • Ensure the effective achievement of IT Infrastructure department objectives by scheduling activities, setting priorities, managing performance, providing formal and informal training, feedback, and appraisal, attracting, developing, retaining, and motivating the Infrastructure team;
  • Supervise data center group and lead, direct and utilize knowledge on best practices in area related to infrastructure;
  • Ensure hardware, software and network installs, re-installs, upgrades, moves, changes, and relocations are made when necessary with minimal disruption and downtime to the business;
  • Ensure adequate resources to support the continuous functioning and integrity of the network, systems, and applications, as well as servers, telecommunications equipment, printers, and copiers;
  • Developing and implementing business continuity plans;
  • Support communications to IT Leadership on IT initiatives and projects, performance against planned objectives and budgets, technology changes and advancements, security issues, and associated impact on expenses;
  • Drive knowledge share of emerging trends, technologies, hardware and software advancements and opportunities to improve customer / user satisfaction, productivity, communication, access to information or reduce operating costs to the benefit of the organization.

Security

  • Responsibility for growing the cybersecurity program and evolving the transition to a mature secure and operational robust environment;
  • Proposing a strategy for information security and IT infrastructure technologies\services;
  • Implementing and overseeing the deployment of information security and IT infrastructure technologies;
  • Ensure security and privacy of information systems, communications, and equipment;
  • Ensure appropriate enterprise-wide IT risk and disaster recovery plans are in place, implemented and reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Operations

  • Coordinate and drive the business relationships with key internal and significant external partners and vendors;
  • Effectively liaise between users, operations, and technical personnel in the areas of design, modifications or troubleshooting.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in an IT professional capacity with at least five years of work experience in an IT leadership function with direct operating responsibility for large scale systems and infrastructure planning for scalability and sustainability;
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science / Management Information Systems;
  • Proficiency with VPN networks, firewalls, encryption, and other aspects of network security technologies.

  • Strong customer service skills, strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, demonstrated ability to establish and maintain credibility, ability to adopt and encourage innovative and strategic thinking, and excellent problem-solving skills to find solutions to complex problems;

  • Strategic thinker and problem solver with a demonstrated ability to apply technology solutions to business issues, able to see the big picture and value of different IT initiatives;
  • Sound leadership, staff management, and teambuilding skills.
