The Nuclear Waste Management Organization is seeking a Manager, Health and Safety - Field to oversee safety and environmental management during the Site Characterization phase. This role involves ensuring compliance with standards, promoting safety culture, and managing health and safety programs. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in occupational health and safety, particularly in site-based roles, and possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Founded in 2002, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is a not-for-profit organization responsible for the safe, long-term management of Canada’s intermediate- and high-level radioactive waste, ensuring protection for people and the environment for future generations.
The NWMO has been guided for over 20 years by a team of scientists, engineers, and Indigenous Knowledge Holders developing innovative solutions for nuclear waste management. In 2024, NWMO selected the Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation (WLON)-Ignace area as the site for its Deep Geological Repository for used nuclear fuel.
Employment Status: Full-time – One (1) position available
Location: Site based at Ignace, ON - 304 Main Street
Reporting to the Director, Site Characterization, the Manager, Health & Safety - Field, oversees the review, development, implementation, and monitoring of the NWMO’s Project Site Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental management systems during the Site Characterization phase. Responsibilities include ensuring safety during activities such as drilling, groundwater monitoring, and site investigations, and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.
Must be eligible to work in Canada and able to meet security clearance requirements.
