Job Description
This position involves leading safety programs, ensuring compliance with regulations, incident investigation, training, and collaboration within a ready mix concrete environment. The role requires developing safety policies, managing risk, conducting audits, and fostering a safety-first culture among diverse teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Program Development & Leadership:
- Develop and implement site-specific health and safety policies for ready mix operations, including batch plants, trucks, and material handling.
- Promote a 'Zero Harm' culture through proactive initiatives, safety committees, and employee engagement.
- Manage programs such as Incident Investigation, Industrial Hygiene Monitoring, Contractor Safety, Workers’ Compensation, and Medical Management.
Compliance & Risk Management:- Ensure adherence to OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations.
- Conduct hazard analyses and industrial hygiene monitoring to mitigate risks like silica dust and noise.
- Perform facility audits, coordinate corrective actions, and evaluate safety program effectiveness.
Incident Investigation & Medical Management:- Lead investigations of workplace incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective measures.
- Oversee Workers’ Compensation and Transitional Duty programs in collaboration with HR and third-party administrators.
Training & Communication:- Design and deliver safety training tailored to employees, contractors, and drivers.
- Provide safety reports and insights to management to improve safety and operations.
- Participate in safety committees, review boards, and corporate safety initiatives.
Collaboration & Industry Support:- Align safety objectives with operational goals.
- Manage contractor safety compliance and support operational safety reviews.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 5+ years in health and safety management within the ready mix, concrete, or construction industry; union experience is highly desirable.
- Deep knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, DOT regulations, with specific industry hazard experience.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification preferred.
- Excellent communication skills; bilingual in Spanish and English is a significant advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and safety management software.
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, respond to emergencies, and travel within Southern California as needed.
- Strong judgment, problem-solving skills, and ability to foster collaboration in a unionized setting.
Physical Requirements & Safety Compliance:
- Must wear PPE and work in industrial environments with exposure to dust, noise, and machinery.
