Job summary

Health Sciences North is seeking a Manager, Financial Planning and Program Support to lead budgeting and forecasting for the hospital, and to provide high-level financial support to senior leadership. The role also oversees accountants across programs and contributes to development of financial tools for management.

The successful candidate will bring CPA designation, a Bachelor’s degree in business, and at least five years in healthcare accounting, with project budgeting/forecasting experience

Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking an individual for the position of Manager, Financial Planning and Program Support to lead HSN’s budget and forecasting processes, provide program support to Senior Leadership and oversee a team of accountants who provide financial support to the various programs throughout HSN. Lead the process for developing financial-related learning tools and systems for hospital management and for mentoring finance staff. Participate in various working groups to improve organizational readiness to perform efficiently in a patient-based funding environment.

Minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, from an accredited university, professional accounting designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) are required. We are looking for someone with a minimum of five (5) years progressive experience in an accounting department within a health care environment. Candidates that possess financial healthcare experienceand training or recent experience with project management, budgeting and forecasting are preferred.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Finance Department operates within a fast-paced, complex, and highly regulated hospital environment, providing financial stewardship and strategic support to all clinical and non-clinical programs. The department is responsible for budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, payroll and labour analysis, accounts payable, accounts receivable, capital planning, funding compliance, and financial decision support to ensure the organization’s long-term financial sustainability.

As part of an integrated healthcare team, the department works collaboratively with senior leadership, operational managers, Human Resources, Payroll, Procurement, and clinical leaders to support informed decision-making and the effective allocation of financial resources. Financial activities are guided by healthcare legislation, Ministry of Health funding models, and organizational policies and procedures.

The Finance Department functions within a unionized environment, requiring a strong understanding of collective agreements, labour costing, staffing models, and the financial impacts of negotiated wages, premiums, overtime, benefits, and workforce planning. Team members regularly analyze labour expenditures and collaborate with Human Resources and operational leaders to support budgeting, workforce management, and compliance with collective agreement provisions.
