THE OPPORTUNITY

The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) is the professional regulatory body for applied science and engineering technology professionals across the province. Dedicated to public protection, ASET ensures its registrants uphold the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, and technical competence. ASET is seeking an experienced and professional Manager, Finance & Administration to lead its finance function while overseeing key administrative areas including procurement, human resources coordination, and vendor management. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role is critical in ensuring the integrity of financial systems, sound budgeting practices, and the effective execution of internal controls. The Manager works collaboratively across departments to support strategic initiatives and organizational accountability and will also contribute to audit coordination, financial reporting, and operational planning. The position supervises the Accounting Assistant and actively participates in committee work and cross-functional collaboration.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, highly collaborative finance professional with strong analytical skills and demonstrated experience in budgeting, procurement, and internal controls —someone who thrives in a values-driven, team-oriented environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management

  • Develop, implement, and maintain systems and internal controls to ensure financial accuracy, transparency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage day-to-day financial operations including A/P, A/R, payroll, general ledger, financial reporting, and cash management.
  • Lead the development of the annual operating budget through a collaborative intake process with department leads and the COO.
  • Prepare quarterly financial statements and analysis for the COO and CEO; support Board reporting as required.
  • Coordinate the annual audit process, including preparing working papers and liaising with external auditors and the Audit Committee.
  • Oversee investment reporting and compliance, monitoring performance in alignment with policy and fund allocation strategy.
  • Monitor investment performance and fund levels, ensuring appropriate allocation and compliance with policy.
  • Ensure all financial policies are current, relevant, and consistently applied.
  • Manage payroll processing and remittances, including T4s, ROEs, and CRA submissions.
  • Oversee work of Accounting Assistant, providing leadership, coaching and mentoring.

Human Resources & Administration

  • Administer employee benefits programs, including liaising with benefit providers and managing annual renewals.
  • Maintain complete and confidential personnel records, ensuring compliance with HR policies and employment legislation.
  • Provide HR-related operational support in partnership with the COO, including, employee file management, and payroll documentation.

Contracts, Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Oversee organizational procurement processes, including planning, vendor selection, and contract execution.
  • Serve on the internal committee responsible for RFP development and evaluation for major contracts.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of contracts, service agreements, and renewal timelines.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or operational management roles.
  • Experience supervising staff and supporting organizational functions.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing complex budgets, audits, and investment portfolios.
  • Experience with full-cycle accounting and reporting.
  • Experience with contract management, procurement planning, and vendor negotiations.
  • Proven ability to manage confidential information and contribute to a high-trust, collaborative work environment.
  • Experience working with boards, councils, or non-profit governance structures is considered an asset.
  • Experience or training in internal audit or risk management is considered an asset.

COMPENSATION

ASET offers a competitive salary range of $90,000–$115,000 annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
