Job Description

The Manager, Finance will be part of BAM’s Corporate team and will report into the VP, Finance. Located in our head office in Downtown Toronto, the Manager, Finance role is a critical position that provides a solid foundation and exposure to a progressive and dynamic career with a leading global asset management firm. The Manager, Finance will be actively involved in leading the team through monthly and quarterly close processes, overseeing daily accounting for BAM’s corporate operations, and working with various internal stakeholders and teams to identify and implement key improvement opportunities. There is also opportunity to provide leadership and mentorship to a growing team of senior/corporate accountants and interns.

Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the monthly financial close cycles for the corporate team and identify opportunities to implement practical changes to drive improvements and efficiencies,
  2. Ensure accounting processes are executed efficiently and effectively and document, when required, evidence of effective review of internal control processes,
  3. Review daily journal entries and period end accruals,
  4. Oversee loan database, accuracy of interest calculations and timely settlements of balances,
  5. Manage the Finance team’s responsibilities in shared service functions across accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, expense reimbursements, and HST filings,
  6. Lead the execution of complex technical accounting steps and issues, including the coordination with other business units and departments,
  7. Manage the consolidation and summarized financial results process for statutory entities within the corporate segment on a quarterly and annual basis for internal management reporting and regulatory requirements,
  8. Collaborate regularly with and respond to the business and finance inquiries from other Brookfield business groups and departments,
  9. Provide direct reports with ongoing training opportunities, mentorship and lead the continued growth and development of each direct report,
  10. Support internal and external reporting audits,
  11. Continuously look for efficiency in our processes, tools and reports and make suggestions to implement these into our framework, and
  12. Lead special projects as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Four to six (4-6) years of progressive work experience in an accounting or auditing function
  • Minimum 2 years industry experience
  • A recognized professional accounting designation (CPA)
  • Experience with public company reporting requirements under IFRS
  • Strong financial systems experience, including advanced Excel skills
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills, and the willingness to always support the team
  • Highly organized and able to work in a dynamic, complex and fast-paced environment, as well as adapt quickly to manage changing priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and pro-active, with respect to both managing workload and professional development
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics would be an asset
