Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. Our Rapid Transit Operations Environmental Assurance team is seeking a Manager, Environmental Management to provide leadership and direction to the development and implementation of environmental strategies, policies and programs that promote sustainable development, lessen environmental impacts and ensure all applicable legislative requirements are met.
What will I be doing?
- Oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of policies, procedures and systems in relation to environmental and sustainable practices.
- Track and monitor legislation to ensure policies, procedures and operations are compliant and consistent.
- Assess and advise on the environmental impacts of proposed initiatives and identify appropriate actions to effectively address any issues arising from those assessments.
- Lead the development of performance measures to monitor progress against environmental strategies, objectives and performance targets.
- Identify key sustainability issues, develops and administers processes and procedures for assessing contractors’ legal and regulatory environmental compliance.
- Manage contractors’ environmental compliance with agreements, permits, regulations and reporting requirements by:
- Conducting environmental audits, including assigned facilities, to ensure that proper procedures are identified and implemented
- Conducting site inspections to monitor compliance with environmental standards, best practices, and reported mitigation requirements
- Preparing reports, complete with root causes and action plans
- Administer environmental mitigation and reporting agreements and contracts, as applicable
- Coordinate environmental aspects of projects with internal groups and external agencies to meet governing / regulatory authority requirements.
- Ensure that current and future facilities (as applicable) adhere to environmental legislation and reporting standards.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of an undergraduate degree in environmental science or a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in environmental management.
- ISO 14001:2015 Lead Auditor Certification would be an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of environmental management principles.
- Advanced knowledge of environmental laws, by-laws, regulations, standards, best practices, and reporting requirements, preferably within the transportation industry.
- Advanced audit skills and experience in developing audit programs, preparing audit plans and conducting environmental compliance and performance audits.
- Knowledge of environmental aspects of transportation industry, property and facility management.
- Analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills to execute strategic plans and policies that encompass a range of considerations and consultation with a range of stakeholders.
- Vendor and contract management, negotiation, and influencing skills to manage and oversee the work of contractors.
- Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills to communicate proposed policies and solutions through a variety of formats to several different audiences.
- A Valid Class “G” driver’s license in good standing is required for the role.
