What is it like to be a Manager of Data Engineering & Delivery at Northbridge Financial

The Manager - Data Engineering & Delivery is responsible for managing data projects and leading a team of BSAs, Data Analysts, and Data Engineers. You will collaborate with business units, EPMO, IT leadership, teams, and partners to identify needs and deliver new data solutions using agile and waterfall methodologies.

  • Managing scope, designing, building, and deploying data projects such as EDLH Datamarts, data warehouses, Data Lakes, and Data Stores.
  • Delivering data solutions aligned with the data strategy and transformation initiatives.
  • Balancing data delivery with ongoing data initiatives and supporting the IT/EPMO portfolio.
  • Evaluating development proposals and assessing their technical impact, feasibility, and effort.
  • Guiding the data engineering team to implement solutions designed by architects and solution designers.
  • Setting standards for data engineering and proactively improving processes.
  • Overseeing ETL/ELT code delivery and ensuring code quality throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Implementing best practices for code management, versioning, and deployment using Azure DevOps.
  • Maintaining comprehensive project documentation.
  • Collaborating with other teams to ensure smooth progress of data engineering work.
  • Managing vendor teams in onsite/offshore models.
  • Estimating technical efforts with solution architects and designers.
  • Understanding the functional aspects of enterprise data systems.
  • Tracking and maintaining data engineering sprint velocities and delivery timelines.
  • Identifying and mitigating technical risks.
  • Providing status updates to IT leadership.
  • Facilitating knowledge transfer during project handovers.
  • Researching and proposing new technologies and approaches.
  • Managing stakeholder relationships within IT and business units.
  • Developing skills and knowledge for complex assignments.
  • Coordinating staff evaluations and performance management.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

If you have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Over 10 years in IT systems, development, and operations.
  • At least 6-8 years of supervisory or management experience, including leading BSA and Data Engineering teams.
  • Experience executing data ingestion, integration, marts, and data warehouse projects.
  • Knowledge of insurance domain (Claims, Underwriting, Reinsurance, Policy generation) is a plus.
  • Experience with Application Lifecycle Management and Azure DevOps.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to independently implement business requirements.
  • Understanding of modern application architecture practices like TDD, CI, Version Control, and Design Patterns.
