Job Description:

Reporting to the Director, Health Solutions Compliance, this role focuses on the day-to-day compliance oversight of Health Solutions at Sun Life Health. As part of the second line of defense, you will collaborate with members from various business areas, including Operational Risk, Legal, and Internal Audit, to ensure compliance risks are managed according to regulatory requirements.

This role requires a significant amount of independent work and, requires the ability to navigate ambiguity with ease. Utilizing an established regulatory compliance management (RCM) program, you will provide oversight and guidance to the second line of defense (2LOD), empowering the business unit to make informed decisions while adhering to regulatory expectations.

A compliance or risk professional, you have financial services experience, with a strong understanding of regulatory requirements as they impact the Health Ecosystem. You demonstrate high personal and professional standards, act with integrity, and operate as a trusted partner for the mitigation of compliance risks by providing advice, oversight and challenge in support of helping Clients achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives.

What will you do?

Build and maintain a regulatory inventory for Health Solutions, Compliance

Promote compliance awareness and provide effective challenge of 1LOD activities

Ensure business has robust compliance structures in place, integrated with Sun Life’s existing RCM program

Assist 2LOD in designing and making available compliance-related training for relevant staff

Provide business with interpretation on existing, new, and amended Compliance requirements

Report on compliance programs, emerging and potential risks, control weaknesses, significant issues, and key regulatory developments

Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of controls to ensure they are sufficiently robust to achieve compliance with applicable regulatory requirements

Perform compliance testing on established controls within the business

Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in business, operations, compliance, audit, legal, and with regulatory staff

What do you need to succeed?

2 to 5 years of experience in an OSFI-regulated environment, with alignment to a three lines of defence model

Demonstrated experience and understanding of regulatory compliance within the financial services sector, with specific understanding and experience within health products

Relevant university degree and/or experience in an oversight function

Experience or education background in healthcare

Knowledge of key operational supporting functions and applicable regulatory rules

Ability to distill complex requirements without oversimplifying or missing critical components

Ability to understand the overall theme of a regulatory requirement despite the abundance of detailed provisions

Ability to identify compliance risks and assess the severity of the risk

Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated relationship management and conflict resolution skills

Ability to effectively prioritize in a diverse and fast paced environment

Ability to work with ambiguity

Strong interpersonal skills and experience working in a team environment

As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with Archer regulatory management system is an asset
