By combining innovative cloud-based accounting technology with hands-on financial expertise, we simplify everything from bookkeeping and payroll to financial reporting and day-to-day accounting, allowing business owners to spend less time managing the numbers and more time growing their businesses.

What sets us apart is our commitment to delivering more than traditional bookkeeping services. We take a collaborative, personalized approach, becoming a trusted extension of our clients' businesses. Through smarter processes, meaningful financial insights and exceptional client service, we help businesses operate more efficiently, make confident decisions and position themselves for continued growth. As a fully remote organization, we embrace technology, collaboration and a culture of accountability, professionalism and continuous improvement.

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced and motivated Manager, Bookkeeping Services to play a key leadership role in overseeing the quality and delivery of our bookkeeping services, supporting a talented team of professionals and ensuring our clients continue to receive exceptional service.

This is an opportunity for someone who combines deep technical bookkeeping expertise with strong leadership capabilities and a genuine passion for developing people. You'll work closely with our Partners and Operations Manager to oversee workflow, maintain quality standards, resolve complex accounting matters and introduce improvements that strengthen how we operate. While you'll maintain a small portfolio of clients, your primary focus will be on leading the technical review process, mentoring the team, managing service delivery and ensuring accuracy, consistency and accountability across our bookkeeping operations.

We're looking for someone who enjoys being hands-on when needed but also sees the bigger picture someone who can bring structure, confidence and sound judgment to a growing professional services environment.

What You'll Be Doing
Bookkeeping Leadership & Quality Assurance
  • Oversee the quality and consistency of full-cycle bookkeeping services across a diverse portfolio of Canadian businesses.
  • Act as the primary technical reviewer for monthly bookkeeping files, financial reporting packages and year-end accountant working papers.
  • Review GST/HST, PST, payroll remittances, WCB/WSIB filings, T4, T4A, T5018 and other statutory submissions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure all bookkeeping work meets our established standards, internal controls and documentation requirements.
  • Identify discrepancies, compliance risks and opportunities for improvement before work is delivered to clients.
  • Provide final authorization for the release of monthly financial reporting packages once quality standards have been met.
  • Maintain consistency across client files, accounting procedures and reporting practices.
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentorship to our bookkeeping professionals.
  • Serve as the team's primary resource for complex accounting questions, troubleshooting and best practices.
  • Foster a supportive, collaborative environment that encourages accountability, knowledge-sharing and professional growth.
  • Identify training opportunities and support the technical onboarding and development of new team members.
  • Lead technical discussions during weekly bookkeeping meetings and share insights that strengthen team capabilities.
  • Participate in performance reviews, recognize high-performing employees and provide constructive guidance where improvement is needed.
Workflow & Operational Management
  • Oversee client deadlines, team workloads and bookkeeping production using Karbon Workflow.
  • Work closely with the Partners and Operations Manager to manage priorities, balance resources and anticipate potential bottlenecks.
  • Ensure bookkeeping, payroll, government filings and month-end/year-end deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Monitor team capacity and recommend adjustments to maintain efficient operations and consistent service delivery.
  • Identify operational risks and proactively develop practical solutions.
  • Participate in management meetings, providing updates on team performance, workflow priorities and opportunities for improvement.
Client Relationships & Service Excellence
  • Act as a senior point of contact for clients requiring technical guidance or assistance with complex bookkeeping matters.
  • Manage a limited portfolio of clients while supporting the broader team's client service responsibilities.
  • Oversee client onboarding and file transitions to ensure a smooth and professional experience.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, external accountants, government agencies, financial institutions and technology providers.
  • Support the Partners in resolving client concerns and maintaining high standards of service.
  • Lead by example in delivering clear, proactive and professional communication.
  • Champion the effective use of cloud-based accounting technology to improve accuracy, productivity and the client experience.
  • Review and enhance bookkeeping procedures, standardized templates, checklists and internal documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, streamline workflows and strengthen internal controls.
  • Recommend improvements to Karbon Workflow processes and task management.
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of new accounting technologies, applications and integrations.
  • Work with leadership to continuously improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
What You Bring

We're looking for an accomplished bookkeeping professional who brings the technical depth, leadership experience and sound judgment needed to guide a busy bookkeeping practice including:

  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive full-cycle bookkeeping experience, ideally within a professional bookkeeping, public accounting or outsourced accounting services environment.
  • At least 4 years of experience reviewing the work of other bookkeepers, with a strong understanding of quality assurance and technical oversight.

  • Experience using Karbon Workflow is a definite asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach and develop bookkeeping professionals.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, accountability and client service.
Technology You'll Work With

Our business operates in a modern, cloud-based environment. Experience with the following applications will be valuable:

  • Accounting & Bookkeeping: QuickBooks Online, Dext Prepare, Plooto and Rotessa.
  • Payroll & Time Management: QuickBooks Payroll, Wagepoint and QuickBooks Time.
  • Workflow & Collaboration: Karbon, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and Dialpad.
Who Will Thrive Here?

You'll be successful in this role if you're someone who takes pride in getting the details right while understanding how to lead people and improve the bigger picture. You're confident in your technical abilities and comfortable making decisions, providing constructive feedback and holding yourself and others accountable to high standards. You enjoy mentoring others, solving complex problems and creating efficiencies that make everyone's work easier. You're organized, approachable and proactive, with the ability to anticipate challenges rather than simply react to them.

Most importantly, you understand that exceptional bookkeeping is about more than accurate numbers. It's about building trust, delivering consistency and helping clients feel confident in their financial operations.

Why Join Source Online?

At Source Online, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a business where technical expertise, collaboration and exceptional service truly matter. You'll enjoy:

  • A fully remote work environment that embraces technology and collaboration.
  • A meaningful leadership opportunity with direct exposure to the Partners and an important voice in operational decisions.
  • The opportunity to develop people, sharing your expertise while helping build a knowledgeable, confident and high-performing team.
  • A modern accounting environment that embraces cloud-based applications, automation and continuous improvement.
  • Variety and challenge, working with businesses across Western Canada and navigating a diverse range of bookkeeping and accounting requirements.
  • The ability to make a difference, influencing how services are delivered, improving processes and contributing to the firm's continued success.
