Scale Up is hiring a meticulous Bookkeeper for the Canada Practice. This 100% remote role requires ownership of end-to-end bookkeeping for multiple Canadian clients, including reconciliations and month-end closes, with strong client communication via email and Zoom.

You will use cloud tools like Xero or QuickBooks Online, with automated data extraction via Dext, Hubdoc, and related systems, while maintaining Canadian payroll and tax compliance knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent practical experience.
• Public practice/bookkeeping experience managing multiple client accounts.
• Strong working knowledge of Canadian bookkeeping standards and GST/HST/PST.
• Experience with Xero or QuickBooks Online and related document tools.

The Role

Our client is looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to manage end-to-end bookkeeping for multiple Canadian clients, ensuring accurate records, timely reconciliations, and complete month-end closes.

You'll work closely with senior accountants, maintain regular communication with clients via email and Zoom, and use modern cloud accounting tools to streamline workflows.

This is a client-facing role that requires strong ownership, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

What You'll Do

• Cloud Accounting System Management: Maintain full end-to-end management of client cloud accounting platforms (Xero or QuickBooks Online) with meticulous accuracy.

• Document Processing & Data Extraction: Manage incoming receipts, bills, and source documents using automated fetching and extraction tools (e.g., Dext, Hubdoc).

• Bank & Credit Reconciliations: Code daily bank feed entries and perform rigorous monthly reconciliations of bank, credit card, supplier, and clearing accounts.

• Canadian Payroll & Statutory Compliance: Process Canadian payroll transactions and manage statutory compliance filings (CPP, EI, and T4 summaries/slips).

• Payables & Receivables Oversight: Manage Accounts Payable workflows and monitor Accounts Receivable to help maintain healthy client cash flow.

• Management Close & Reporting: Execute complete month-end closes and draft published financial reports under the supervision of senior accountants.

• Proactive Client Communication: Serve as a direct, responsive point of contact for routine client inquiries, addressing operational needs and solving problems collaboratively.

Ideal Profile

• Education & Credentials: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent practical experience.

• Public Practice Experience: Prior bookkeeping or accounting firm/BPO experience managing multiple client accounts.

• Cloud Tech Stack Mastery: Hands-on experience with Xero or QuickBooks Online (certification expected), alongside modern document collection tools like Double, Dext, and Hubdoc.

• Canadian Compliance Knowledge: Solid working understanding of Canadian bookkeeping standards, sales tax frameworks (GST/HST/PST), and payroll processing.

• High ownership mentality and exceptional attention to detail.

• Comfortable with repetitive monthly deadline cycles.

• An AI-first problem-solving mindset, proactive adaptability, and exceptional client empathy.

• Independent worker who enjoys getting things done, checking off tasks, and meeting deadlines.

Training & Development

Our client provides full training and development.

Your first few months will focus on learning their systems and standards while working closely with other members of the team. Once you have proven your skills and aptitude, you will be assigned your own clients.

Candidates who already have experience as bookkeepers will still go through the training and mentorship program. Our client is very particular about their processes and how things are done, and sometimes needs to correct bad habits picked up elsewhere. However, candidates with the right skills and aptitude will progress through the program faster.

The goal is to develop you into a bookkeeping ninja - an expert in accounting tools, excellent in client service, and fast in your ability to keep everything up to date.
