  • Eligibility Criteria:

    • Age Requirement: Applicants must be18 years of age or older.
    • Enrollment: You are currently enrolled as a full-time student at a post-secondary institution (college or university).
    • Proof of Enrollment: You will need to provide proof of enrollment that you are a full-time post-secondary student.
    • Availability: You must be availableMonday through Friday during business hoursfromMay to August.

Position Summary:

The successful candidates will report to the Supervisor’s of Highway Operations and will be responsible for providing labour and equipment operation to maintain 407ETR right-of-way in compliance with the Operations Safety Control Plan.

Position Responsibilities:

  • General Highway Maintenance – grass cutting, line trimming, litter removal, landscaping and minor maintenance and repairs to equipment relating to grass mowing and litter removal activities.
  • Traffic control set-up and takedown - All students will receive traffic control safety training to enable them to install basic traffic control for their own work activities.
  • Operation and Maintenance of Equipment – operate and maintain equipment used for grass mowing, trimming and litter removal.
  • Operate ½ and ¾ ton pickup trucks towing small landscape trailers with grass cutting equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors during summer months in a Freeway environment.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in a post secondary school program.
  • Must have a Valid ”G” driver’s license in good standing.
  • Some knowledge on the operations of small hand tools, operation of riding lawn mowers, line trimmers and assorted other small hand tools.
  • Ability to work with contractors, supervisors, and co-workers effectively.
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35lbs/16 kg.
