Job summary

West Coast Seniors Housing Management is seeking a Casual Maintenance Worker for Nanaimo Seniors Village in Nanaimo, BC. You will perform day-to-day maintenance to support safe, efficient operations and assist in ensuring the safety and security of residents, staff and visitors.

The role requires basic computer skills and willingness to work flexible hours including emergencies. Responsibilities include inspections, repairs across electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry, as well as

Qualifications

• Minimum 1-year work experience related to building or community maintenance.
• Knowledge of painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, heating systems and gardening.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
• Basic level of computer knowledge – Microsoft Office and maintenance software.
• Ability to prioritize and organize maintenance schedule.
• Ability to communicate professionally with residents, staff, visitors and contractors.
• Must pass vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check.

Responsibilities

• Inspect equipment and logs daily, diagnose malfunctions and recommend replacements.
• Inspect alarm, call, and security systems and log information daily.
• Schedule and supervise service work in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
• Perform general repairs to electrical, plumbing and other building components.
• Be available for emergency call-ins.
• Maintain painting/touch-up schedule.
• Implement snow removal and de-icing program or supervise contractor.
• Support pest control program.
• Maintain safe work areas and follow infection control procedures.
• Maintain daily maintenance logs and assist staff with equipment operation.
