Description:

General Description of Class: Under direction, performs minor repairs and maintenance duties on a regular basis, along with operational support duties across various university buildings.

Typical Duties:

1. Performs maintenance to ensure building, fixtures, and equipment are in good working order, including repairs, replacements, minor carpentry, hardware, light fixtures, signage, locks, screens, windows, plumbing fixtures, and general cleaning.
2. Maintains internal signage and inspects hardware and malfunctioning equipment.
3. Ensures accessibility equipment functions properly.
4. Conducts visual inspections of buildings and equipment, reporting issues as necessary.
5. Clears snow and ice from entrances, lays salt, and performs preventative maintenance.
6. Checks fire, safety, and elevator equipment, reporting repairs needed.
7. Monitors health and safety concerns, following protocols during fire alarms, and replacing batteries in smoke detectors and alarms.
8. Reports damaged or defective equipment, advising supervisors on repairs.
9. Performs cleaning duties, including mopping floors, cleaning residences, and removing garbage.
10. Coordinates with supervisors, staff, and students to ensure maintenance and cleanliness standards are met.
11. Responds to building occupant requests, providing necessary information and services.
12. Maintains inventory of materials and equipment, ordering supplies as needed.
13. Maintains accurate records of work performed, completes work orders and projects.
14. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements for Selection:

Education: Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent; technical training is desirable.

Experience: At least three years of related work experience; technical training may substitute for experience.

Other Skills and Knowledge: Mechanical aptitude, building maintenance knowledge, ability to operate tools and equipment safely, familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety Act, effective communication skills, ability to work independently, and physical ability to perform duties including lifting up to 50 lbs and walking long distances. Experience with elevator and accessibility equipment is an asset.
