Work Hours: 12 hours per week

Employment Type: Hourly Contract - 12 months

The Maintenance Technician provides high-standard building maintenance, ensures safety, and creates quality experiences for members. Working as part of the centre staff team, they build relationships, connect with members, and maintain professionalism.

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain and repair building equipment, respond to work orders, including painting, drywall, HVAC, fire safety, lockers, floors, and plumbing; coordinate third-party contractors as needed.
  • Ensure the safe operation of pools, whirlpools, saunas, and steam rooms, including related equipment, chemicals, and cleanliness, adhering to legislation. Handle repairs promptly.
  • Perform cleaning tasks, including light-duty, project, general cleaning, and laundry services.
  • Follow health and safety practices to ensure safety of members, property, and yourself. Comply with YMCA policies and standards.
  • Perform repairs, contact and supervise contractors during repairs.
  • Respond to emergencies and maintenance issues, report to the Facility Manager, and act as building operator when needed.
  • Provide coverage for opening/closing, assist during on-call periods.
  • Manage building supplies inventory, order materials as needed.
  • Participate in programs, meetings, and events.
  • Implement policies for safe member and volunteer participation.
  • Build relationships with members, promote the YMCA’s mission, and educate about YMCA’s role as a charity.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

You bring:

  • High School diploma
  • Building Operator Certificate (asset), willingness to learn
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C (asset)
  • At least 5 years experience in skilled trades or building maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, water chemistry, and pool operation (asset)
  • WHMIS and safety training (asset)
  • Computer skills and facility management software (asset)
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines
  • Team player with interpersonal skills, communication skills, and commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, and weekends
