Job description

Position Description

Yonge Street Mission (YSM) is a vibrant, non-profit Christian organization leading a collective movement to end chronic poverty in Toronto. Since its inception, we’ve worked to transform the lives of people living with poverty by offering holistic programs and services that enable street-involved youth, families in need, adults experiencing poverty, and vulnerable communities to move from surviving to thriving.

We are passionate about investing in the people we work with and seek a diverse staff who are committed to our mission: Christians with a heart for neighbors in need, a desire to transform lives, and a belief in treating everyone with dignity and respect. If you are inspired by our vision and feel called to contribute to YSM’s work, we would love to hear from you.

What We Offer

As a staff member at YSM, you can expect a values-based, collaborative, and engaging work environment that prioritizes staff mental health and well-being. We offer meaningful, innovative, and impactful work with opportunities to make a difference in the lives of children, families, and the community. Our flexible hybrid work arrangements, competitive Total Rewards package—including Group RRSP matching, annual leave, paid personal days, comprehensive health and dental coverage, Employee and Family Assistance Program with Christian counseling services, and other perks—are designed to support our staff.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a full-time Maintenance Supervisor. This role involves overseeing maintenance, repairs, liaising with contractors, and ensuring our six buildings comply with all City and Governmental regulations related to Fire Safety and Building Codes. Although this is a supervisory position, it requires a hands-on approach, with the expectation that the individual will perform physical work when necessary.

Responsibilities
  1. Ensure all YSM buildings are in good working order and that all work orders are created and completed.
  2. Conduct monthly building inspections and create work orders as needed.
  3. Assist with moving, deliveries, vehicle driving, meeting setups, small repairs, and support tasks as required.
  4. Manage daily interactions with building contractors (pest control, waste management, elevators, fire safety, HVAC, electricians, security, plumbers, etc.) and verify invoices.
  5. Manage the CMMS system for work orders, monitor the BAS system, and perform monthly building inspections.
  6. Oversee fire safety system inspections, repairs, and upgrades, ensuring compliance and conducting fire drills and training for fire wardens.
  7. Manage the fleet of vehicles, ensuring proper insurance, licensing, maintenance, and related documentation.
  8. Handle invoicing, contractor payments, and project purchase orders within budget constraints.
  9. Respond to emergency calls as directed and act as Property Manager in the absence of the Manager of Properties.
Qualifications
  • 5-7 years of hands-on experience in Property Management; experience with apartment buildings is an asset.
  • Experience working with contractors, sub-contractors, and small renovations.
  • Availability to work weekends, after hours, and on-call as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
  • Must be a Christian with a personal commitment to YSM’s faith, mission, and values.
Compensation

The starting salary for this role is $45.62 per hour, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package and perks.

Deadline for Application: Until the role is filled.

While we appreciate all responses, only candidates under consideration will be contacted. Please note that YSM does not use artificial intelligence in any stage of the recruitment process.
