Job description

Overview

The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the completion of scheduled maintenance jobs using the highest level of safety, quality, and effectiveness at minimum cost to maximize equipment availability and optimize reliability.

Responsibilities
  1. Safety: Ensure the safe and effective operation of the maintenance unit and in compliance with OH&S and environment policies for Maintenance personnel. Establish safety culture and tackle specific actions to ensure health and safety prevention during maintenance activities. Serve as a role model in the areas of safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
  2. Environmental Considerations: In consultation with the Environmental Manager, ensure that all regulatory requirements associated with the carrying out of operational duties are completed as required by the relevant regulation, certificate, or permit.
  3. Mechanical Supervision: Assign and review work to perform with millwrights. Maintain schedule priority and compliance. Complete maintenance related jobs according to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  4. Reporting: Provide reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator and feedback to millwrights on repair jobs including consumption of materials, tools, person-hours, and skill.
Relationship with Others
  1. The Maintenance Supervisor reports directly to the Maintenance Coordinator.
  2. Oversees the implementation of preventative maintenance actions, including the supervision of workers/contractors.
Specific Accountabilities
  1. Supervise millwrights and contractors when required.
  2. Administer the terms and conditions of the Collective Agreement in a fair, firm, and consistent manner.
  3. Ensure that maintenance activities comply with all legislated regulations and corporate policies.
  4. Promote good relations and communication between the maintenance and production departments.
  5. Ensure productivity, housekeeping, and quality of work standards are maintained within the mechanical maintenance department.
  6. Aim to achieve 98% reliability on all major pieces of equipment.
  7. Participate in the plant “On-Call” system.
  8. Investigate, report, provide, and implement corrective actions for all safety incidents and near misses.

Qualification Profile

Education:

  1. Mechanical Engineering Technologist or Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (Millwright) certifications with relevant experience.
  2. Extensive experience in heavy equipment repair; experience in inspection an asset.

Experience and Skill Set:

  1. Minimum 8 years’ work experience in heavy industry.
  2. Proven experience in executing major work and plant shutdowns.
  3. Knowledge of labour laws and personnel management rules.
  4. Experience with Computerized Mechanical Maintenance System (CMMS).
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant personnel.
