Job description

For over 117 years, Avalon Dairy has been a local leader in the manufacturing and distribution of Quality dairy products.

We require an energetic, motivated and career mindedMaintenance Managerto join our team due to a pending retirement. You will have an extended period of time to train and work with the incumbent to ensure a seamless transition into your new role.

Reporting tothe Operations Manager, the Maintenance Manager is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the facility including all equipment. This position is responsible for leading and supporting the maintenance staff with a hands-on approach for continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

· Oversee, train and lead the maintenance team in scheduling, preventative maintenance and the safe and efficient operation and repair of all plant equipment.

· Improve and maintain preventative and predictive maintenance systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.

· Identify opportunities and make recommendations to continuously improve maintenance operations and efficiencies.

· Perform work planning and scheduling for three maintenance personnel within the plant on a weekly basis.

· Oversee the safe and efficient operation of all utilities and equipment within the facility used to produce, pack, handle, store and ship products.

· Ensure that required parts are ordered, organized and stocked.

· Food Safety & Quality responsibility as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures and other training materials provided.

. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs, and inspections

· Coordinate with all outside contractors and ensure that work is completed in a safe manner that complies with all necessary manufacturing codes, regulations and standards i.e. H&S, GMP’s, HACCP, WHMIS, MSDS.

· Communicate daily maintenance activity to all Supervisors and Operators.

· Oversee Capital Projects assigned by Operation Manager.

· Train and develop maintenance staff using continuous improvement methodologies.

· Assist senior management with establishing and implementing operating and capital budgets; ensure maintenance operates within budget parameters.

· Attend prescribed courses and training as required.

· Other projects as assigned by management.

Qualification and Competencies:

· Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a related position within a manufacturing facility is required. Certified 2nd or 3rd Class Operating Engineer required.

· Millwright /Red Seal/ Industrial Electrician certifications are an asset.

· Proven, hands on success with preventative and predictive maintenance systems.

· Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate in English, both written and verbally.

· Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, familiarity with logic controllers, schematics, and electrical systems.

· Computer skills-Experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and other computerized maintenance management systems.
