Job summary

David Aplin Recruiting partners with a well-established Alberta organization to lead maintenance and physical plant operations across multiple Calgary locations. This hands-on leadership role requires expertise in HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems, building infrastructure and preventative maintenance, with a track record of supervising maintenance teams and coordinating contractors.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in building maintenance or facilities management.
  • Valid 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate or equivalent.
  • Journeyman certification in plumbing, electrical or carpentry is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and life-safety systems.
  • Experience supervising and developing maintenance staff.
  • Experience managing contractors and external trades.
  • Strong focus on safety, compliance and maintenance standards.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and locations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, schedule, coach and support the maintenance team across multiple Calgary locations.
  • Oversee day-to-day maintenance and physical plant operations.
  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ensure buildings, equipment and infrastructure are safe, reliable and well maintained.
  • Coordinate and manage external contractors, tradespeople and service providers.
  • Ensure emergency, life-safety and building systems are inspected and maintained.
  • Respond to urgent after-hours maintenance issues and allocate resources accordingly.
  • Oversee groundskeeping, landscaping, snow removal and related property services.
  • Manage general building repairs and improvement projects.
  • Maintain maintenance records, inventories and documentation.

Aplin has partnered with a well-established Alberta organization providing health and life-enrichment services within continuing-care environments. They are seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance and physical plant operations across multiple Calgary locations.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Lead, schedule, coach and support the maintenance team.
  • Oversee day-to-day maintenance and physical plant operations across multiple locations.
  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ensure buildings, equipment and infrastructure are safe, reliable and well maintained.
  • Oversee repairs involving mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and general building systems.
  • Coordinate and manage external contractors, tradespeople and service providers.
  • Ensure emergency, life-safety and building systems are inspected and maintained in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Respond to urgent after-hours maintenance issues and coordinate appropriate resources when required.
  • Oversee groundskeeping, landscaping, snow removal and related property services.
  • Manage general building repairs and improvement projects.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inventories and documentation.
  • Review invoices, purchase orders and other financial documentation.
  • Assist with operating and capital budgets.
  • Maintain awareness of applicable building codes, safety standards and regulatory requirements.
What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Manager, Facilities Manager, Building Operations Manager, Chief Building Operator or senior tradesperson who has progressed into a leadership role.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities management, physical plant operations or a related environment
  • Valid 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate or equivalent technical training.
  • Journeyman certification in plumbing, electrical, carpentry or a related trade is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • HVAC systems
    • Mechanical systems
    • Electrical systems
    • Plumbing
    • Building infrastructure
    • Preventative maintenance
    • Life-safety systems
  • Previous experience supervising, coaching and developing maintenance employees.
  • Experience managing contractors and external trades.
  • Strong understanding of safety, compliance and maintenance standards.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and locations effectively.
  • Experience with budgets, purchasing, invoices and inventory is an asset.
  • Ability to respond to occasional after-hours emergencies.

Must be legally eligible to work in Canadaand must hold a valid 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate or an equivalent recognized qualification that meets the facility’s operating requirements.
