Foundations for the Future Charter Academy in Calgary is seeking a Maintenance Assistant II to join the central office team. You will perform semi-skilled building maintenance across school facilities, including carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, and safety tasks, reporting to the Director of Facilities.

Ideal candidates bring a High School Diploma, a 5th Class Power Engineering certification (or higher), Journeyman ticket, and relevant trade experience.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; relevant trade or mechanical experience preferred.
  • Power Engineering 5th Class or higher certificate required.
  • Journeyman ticket required.
  • Basic/standard first aid certificate required.
  • Experience in school environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and complete work orders; perform maintenance tasks.
  • Take daily boiler readings and weekend boiler checks.
  • Escalate repairs to the Assistant Facility Director as needed.
  • Identify safety hazards and report to the Director of Facilities.
  • Assist other Maintenance Assistants and meet contractors for access to work sites.

Maintenance Assistant II – 1.0 FTECentral Office

Located in Calgary, Foundations for the Future Charter Academy (FFCA) is the largestpublic charter school in Alberta, serving over 4000 students in eight campusesthroughout the city. We offer educational programming through a distinctive DirectInstruction Teaching and Learning Framework (DITLF) that has been refined anddeveloped within the Alberta context for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Ourmission is to provide a safe and caring environment where the four pillars of our charter,namely academic excellence, character development, parental involvement and staffleadership are valued and fostered.Position SummaryA Maintenance Assistant II is required for a full-time continuing position beginningimmediately.Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Maintenance Assistant is responsible forperforming a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the operation and maintenance ofschool facilities, including but not limited to carpentry, HVAC, general buildingoversight and plumbing.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Maintenancea. Review and complete work orders submittedb. Taking daily boiler readingsc. Boiler checks on the weekendd. Identifying repairs to be escalated to Assistant Facility Director

    requiring external contractor involvemente. Preventative Maintenance tasksf. Assist other Maintenance Assistants as needed to complete work

    ordersg. Take initiative on identifying and completing repairs during regular

    maintenance and preventative maintenance activitiesh. Meet contractors for repair and project access

  • 2. Safetya. Identifying and reporting to the Assistant Facility Director any safety

    hazards within the building

    b. Ensuring outside playground equipment is in good repair, and reportingany issues to the Assistant Facility Director

    c. During winter, if sidewalks or building entrance appear slippery,applying salt when necessary

  • 3. Other related duties as assigned

    a. Physical requirements: ability to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis andup to 80 pounds occasionally.

    b. Must be able to walk and work without sitting for the majority of theday.

Desired Experience and/or Training

  • 5th Class or higher Power Engineering Certificate of Competency or relevant Red
  • Seal Journeyman ticket required
  • Basic/standard first aid certificate required
  • Additional tickets such as Aerial platform, confined space preferred
  • Previous work experience within a school environment preferred
  • Previous experience with the oversite of new or restoration projects preferred
