Position Summary:
Waldorf Academy is seeking an inspiring and dedicated Lower Elementary Main Lesson Teacher to join our vibrant community. The ideal candidate will embody a deep understanding of Waldorf pedagogy and bring creativity, compassion, and enthusiasm to their teaching. Grade 3 is a pivotal year for students, focusing on themes of self-awareness, independence, and practical skills. As the Main Lesson Teacher, you will guide students through this transformative year with engaging and meaningful lessons that integrate academic, artistic, and experiential learning.
Key Responsibilities:
• Main Lesson Instruction: Plan and teach daily Main Lesson blocks that align with Waldorf pedagogy, covering Grade 3 themes such as farming, building, measurement, time, Old Testament stories, and practical life skills.
• Curriculum Development: Create and implement age-appropriate, hands-on, and experiential learning activities that integrate academics with arts, movement, and storytelling.
• Classroom Management: Foster a warm, inclusive, and structured learning environment that supports the emotional, social, and academic development of each child.
• Parent Communication: Maintain open and regular communication with parents, including parent evenings, conferences, reports, and individual meetings, to support student growth and build strong school-family partnerships.
• Student Assessment: Observe and assess students’ progress, keeping detailed records and providing developmental feedback in written reports and conferences.
• Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues, including specialty subject teachers (e.g., music, foreign language, and handwork), to provide a well-rounded Waldorf education.
• Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities, including faculty meetings, training sessions, and workshops, to deepen your understanding of Waldorf pedagogy and child development.
• Community Engagement: Contribute to the life of the school community by participating in festivals, assemblies, and other school-wide events.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree (required). Waldorf Teacher Training Certification or significant progress toward certification (required). Bachelor of Education member of the OCT (preferred).
• Experience: Previous experience teaching in a Waldorf school or familiarity with Waldorf education. Experience teaching elementary-aged children is highly desirable.

• Strong understanding of child development, particularly the nine-year change.
• Ability to engage students through storytelling, artistic expression, and experiential learning.
• Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
• Clear and compassionate communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand, move, and actively engage with students throughout the school day.
• Ability to lead outdoor activities and participate in physical tasks related to farming, gardening, or building projects.
Compensation:
$45,000 - $60,000 based on education and years of experience.
