Caterpillar Inc. is hiring a Machinist IV in the Edmonton area. The role involves setting up and operating conventional lathes, mills, and boring mills to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. Schedule: Monday–Friday evenings; starting pay $43.85 CAD/hr, with potential overtime based on demand.

Candidates should have Journeyman Machinist certification or Red Seal, 3+ years of experience, and strong blueprint-reading skills. Relocation and sponsorship not offered.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Machinist certification or Red Seal preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good blueprint reading and interpretation of drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate conventional lathes, mills, vertical and horizontal boring mills.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Measure, mark and scribe dimensions for parts.
  • Verify finished workpiece to specifications and adjust as needed.

Job Summary:

The Machinist IV role is responsible for setting up and operating conventional lathes, mills, vertical and horizontal boring mills to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.

What you will do:

  • Effectively demonstrate the core values of SPM Oil & Gas at all times

  • Demonstrate consistency, accountability, reliability and solid work ethic.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces.
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow the sequence of operations and setup requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as a guide for subsequent machining.
  • Select, align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes and grinders.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, adjusting machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verify compliance of finished workpiece to specifications
  • Set up and operate the machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings.
  • Ability to identify worn tooling, installing replacement inserts, grinding wheels and carbide cutters on equipment and maintains daily PM as required.
  • Ability to identify quality-related issues.
  • Demonstrates versatility across multiple machine types.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What you will have:

  • Must have basic knowledge of Critical Safety Devices and their purpose.
  • Ability to accurately complete all work-related documents.
  • Understand basic operating principles for all plant machinery.
  • Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and deal with problems.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude.

Top Candidates will have:

  • Journeyman Machinist. Provincial Trade Certification or Red Seal desired. Qualified Machinist apprentices will also be considered.
  • 3+ Years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Summary Pay Range:

$43.85 - $50.40

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location,job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
