Job summary

Doppelmayr Canada Ltd. is seeking a Machining Supervisor in the Laurentians region to coordinate and lead conventional and CNC machining activities. You will optimize processes, manage resources, and drive operational efficiency while supporting a unionized production team.

The role requires 5+ years in a similar setting, strong ERP skills, and proven leadership in a unionized environment. A focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement is essential, with a path toward career growth

Your tasks

As a Machining Supervisor, you will be responsible for the coordination and management of activities related to both conventional and CNC machining. You will play a key role in optimizing manufacturing processes and resources while leading and supporting production teams. Your primary mission will be to ensure operational efficiency, achievement of production targets, quality of machined parts, and the maintenance of a collaborative and motivating work environment.

Summary of tasks
Team and Operations Management
  • Plan, organize, and supervise machining activities using an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Coordinate workload balancing and workstation layout to maximize productivity.
  • Manage individual performance by establishing clear and measurable objectives while monitoring quality and compliance with standards.
  • Engage and motivate teams to achieve production goals while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards for machined parts.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, including maintaining strong relationships with unionized employees and contributing to proactive conflict resolution.
Optimization and Continuous Improvement
  • Regularly analyze machining work methods and identify improvement opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Participate in documenting and standardizing machining processes in collaboration with team leaders and other relevant departments.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and best practices in machining while ensuring the implementation of advanced technologies and techniques.
Workforce Planning and Talent Development
  • Participate in workforce planning and anticipate adjustments required to meet production fluctuations.
  • Identify training needs, organize development programs, and ensure machinists are trained and up to date on machining techniques and programs.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure effective recruitment and onboarding of new machining team members.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Performance Management
  • Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to ensure equipment reliability and minimize production interruptions.
  • Participate in operations management meetings by providing reports on machining department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as productivity, quality, and on-time delivery.
  • Collaborate with management to establish production schedules and adjust resources based on business priorities.
Compliance and Safety
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards at all times by overseeing the application of risk prevention programs.
  • Ensure adherence to quality policies and applicable standards by guaranteeing that all machined parts meet internal and external requirements.
  • Apply and comply with company policies and the Quality Management System.
  • Perform duties in alignment with the company’s vision and code of ethics.
  • All other related tasks.
Your profile
Education and Qualifications
  • Diploma or education deemed relevant to the position.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Experience managing teams in a unionized environment.
Skills and Experience
  • Strong technical expertise in conventional and CNC machining principles. In-depth understanding of multi-axis machining centers (3-axis, 5-axis, etc.)
  • Proficiency in reading complex engineering drawings and working with both metric and imperial measurement systems.
  • Ability to analyze machining processes, optimize workflow, and apply continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Operational Leadership: Ability to engage a unionized workforce and manage individual performance with fairness and accountability.
  • Strategic Workforce Planning: Ability to anticipate staffing needs and optimize task allocation to maximize production efficiency.
  • Decision-Making and Problem Solving: Ability to make timely decisions in daily operational situations and diagnose complex technical issues.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and ensure effective cross-functional collaboration with maintenance, engineering, and methods teams.
  • Priority Management: Excellent organizational skills in a fast-paced environment, combined with resilience under pressure and a results-oriented mindset.
  • Attention to Detail and Quality Focus: Commitment to quality standards to ensure all machined parts meet precision requirements and safety expectations.
Languages
  • Advanced French (reading, writing, listening, and speaking).
  • Intermediate English (reading, writing, listening, and speaking).

French is the primary working language within the organization.

The incumbent of the position must occasionally collaborate with the technical expertise centers at the parent company in Austria, as well as with Doppelmayr USA, to coordinate production activities and share manufacturing methods and best practices.
