Job summary

The City of Kawartha Lakes is seeking a Lube Technician to perform routine preventative maintenance and basic servicing on municipal fleet vehicles and equipment, supporting safe, reliable, and efficient operations across the City.

This permanent full‑time role offers a 40‑hour week with day shifts, travel throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes, and a starting wage of $24.17 per hour (2026). Education and driving credentials are required.

Qualifications

• Secondary school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent
• Valid Ontario Class G drivers Licence and clean driving record

Hours

Normal working hours are 40-hours per week, with core working hours between 6:30 am and 3:00 pm and 7:00 am and 3:30 pm. May be required to work varied and additional hours: day, afternoon, evening and weekend hours.

Travel throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes in accordance with job requirements. Work in all weather conditions, including prolonged periods of heat, rain or snow, while respecting safe work practices

Essential Duties

Specific to this role:

• Performs routine preventative maintenance services on a variety of municipal fleet vehicles and equipment, including oil and filter changes, fluid checks and replacements, air and cabin filter replacements, tire pressure checks, tire rotations, chassis lubrication, battery inspections, and replacement of minor service components such as windshield wipers
• Conducts multipoint vehicle inspections using asset-specific checklists and established Fleet Services procedures, including inspection of brakes, steering, suspension, exhaust systems, belts, hoses, tires, batteries, and visible signs of fluid leaks
• Identifies and reports vehicle maintenance requirements, safety concerns, and potential mechanical issues to Technicians or supervisory staff to support timely repairs and preventative maintenance planning
• Completes documentation of maintenance activities, inspection findings, and Technician remarks within electronic work order system to maintain service records and support fleet reliability
• Assists Technicians with general repair and maintenance activities, including vehicle preparation, movement of equipment, and other shop-related duties as required
• Operates and maintains shop equipment including vehicle lifts, jacks, fluid dispensing equipment, hand tools, and power tools
• Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following established procedures, quality standards, and workplace safety practices
• Handles, stores, and disposes of oils, lubricants, filters, chemicals, and other waste materials in accordance with Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) requirements, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), environmental regulations, and departmental procedures
• Provides customer service to stakeholders and supports positive working relationships with Fleet Services staff, operational departments, and service providers

• Administer defined procedures and recommend solutions to challenges or process improvements
• Work collaboratively with others to deliver the outcomes as defined; report any challenges to the supervisor and/or manager
• Respond to customer service concerns; participating in problem solving and providing information to the supervisor and/or manager as appropriate
• Keep daily time sheets, equipment log sheets, and hours of work log sheets for supervisor review and approval
• Follow prescribed health and safety procedures including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Maintain documentation, databases, and corporate records in accordance with policy and divisional practice; consider legislative municipal requirements such as the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA)
• Provide data or input on processes to allow reporting and decision making
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Secondary school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent
• Basic automotive mechanical knowledge gained through education, training, or practical experience
• Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence and an acceptable driving record
• Previous experience performing routine automotive maintenance and servicing is preferred
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance schedules, inspection procedures, and safe work practices
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, vehicle lifts, jacks, and other related shop equipment
• Demonstrated time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines
• Possess and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and personal attributes as described in the key performance competencies outlined below
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications, audio/video conferencing, the internet, and any other related software
• Upon a conditional offer of employment, a satisfactory Criminal Record Check will be required
