Job summary

Red River Mutual is seeking a field-focused Loss Prevention Inspector to conduct residential, commercial and farm property inspections. You will identify risks, document findings and provide loss prevention recommendations to reduce fire, weather and liability losses.

Travel across Manitoba and Saskatchewan, strong customer service and reporting skills are essential. A valid driver’s license and experience with building and fire codes are required.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule policyholder visits to conduct safety evaluations on a wide range of properties
  • Document construction details, risk factors and loss control points
  • Complete reporting in a timely and accurate manner
  • Provide digital photographs, measurements and structure diagrams
  • Identify hazards, risk exposure, maintenance opportunities and loss prevention improvements
  • Calculate accurate structure replacement costs to support Insurance-to-Value alignment
  • Effectively communicate and work with policyholders and brokers, while providing exceptional customer service
  • Provide consistent application of building and fire codes
  • Provide support and guidance to underwriters, brokers, and policyholders on technical loss prevention strategies
  • Participate in industry association events and continuing education, to stay on top of trends

PURPOSE OF POSITION

This position is responsible for conducting and documenting residential, commercial, and farm property inspections with policyholders to identify risk, and provide loss prevention recommendations, to reduce the frequency and severity of loss arising from fire, wind, water, crime and personal liability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
  • Schedule appointments with policyholders to conduct safety evaluations on a wide range of properties
  • Document construction details, risk management factors and loss control points
  • Complete reporting in a timely and accurate manner
  • Provide digital photographs, measurements and structure diagrams
  • Identify hazards, risk exposure, maintenance opportunities and loss prevention improvements
  • Calculate accurate structure replacement costs to support Insurance-to-Value alignment
  • Effectively communicate and work with policyholders and brokers, while providing exceptional customer service
  • Provide consistent application of building and fire codes
  • Provide support and guidance to underwriters, brokers, and policyholders on technical loss prevention strategies
  • Participate in industry association events and continuing education, to further technical expertise and stay on top of trends
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Thrives both independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Physical ability to navigate various terrain, access partially enclosed or low-clearance areas of structures
  • Self-motivated & self-directed
  • Exceptional planning, organization and prioritization skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel to policyholder locations throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions across Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Adherence to PPE and WSH standards during site visits
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and comfortable learning technical inspection software
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience analyzing risk and conducting property inspections
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license and satisfactory driver’s abstract
  • General knowledge of electrical systems (wiring, panels, breakers, grounding etc.)
  • General knowledge of property insurance principles (CIP or CRM designation considered an asset)
  • Experience with building construction and interpretation of building and fire code
  • Experience with building appraisals, risk assessment, loss prevention an asset
  • Satisfactory completion of background checks
