Job summary

SGB FREIGHT SYSTEM in Etobicoke, ON is seeking a Long haul truck driver who is self-motivated and has good interpersonal skills. This is a permanent, full-time position with various shift times.

The role includes two-person convoy operations, loading/unloading, vehicle inspections, and communication with central dispatch. Candidates must hold an AZ licence with air brake endorsement and be willing to travel cross-border.

Qualifications

• Minimum secondary school graduation certificate.
• AZ class licence with air brake endorsement and valid Class 1/A licence.
• Fluent English and good communication skills.
• Willingness to travel cross-border and work long hours as needed.
• Ability to load/unload and operate trucks safely.

Responsibilities

• Maintain professionalism in customer service.
• Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy.
• Load and unload goods.
• Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods.
• Oversee vehicle condition; inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment.
• Perform brake adjustments.

• Tarp and secure cargo for safety and security.

• The candidate will be expected to maintain professionalism in customer service.

Job Requirements

• The candidate should be fluent in English language.
• The candidate should have minimum qualification of Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
• Candidate having experience is an asset.
• The candidate must have an AZ class licence, an air brake endorsement, and a valid driver’s licence (Class 1 or A).
• The candidate must be able to handle weight up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
• The candidate should be organised and flexible in nature.
• The candidate should be reliable.
• The candidate should be a good team player.

Experience and Specialization

Documentation Knowledge

• The candidate should be knowledgeable about Accident or incident reports, Bill of lading, Driver logbook, Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip), Trans-border documentation and Trip reports.

Type of Trucking and Equipment

• Trucking and equipment types include Dry bulk, Flatbed and Tractor-trailer.

Communication Systems Experience

• The candidate must be able to use GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation devices.
• The candidate must be familiar with the Trip recorder (on-board computer)

Transportation/travel experience

• The candidate must have long-haul transportation experience.
• The candidate must have prior travel experience in both National and Provincial/territorial regions.

• The candidate should be subjected to a thorough driver’s licence validity check, driving record check (abstract), and drug test.
