Job summary

Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is seeking a Logistics Coordinator, Land to support port operations and container terminal traffic management. You will gather information, interpret data, and alert the shift coordinator to emerging security issues while assisting in the VFPA Operations Center as needed.

The role requires high school completion with 4+ years in logistics/operations, truck staging experience, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate with 4+ years in operations/logistics.
  • Experience in security, safety and emergency incidents.
  • Truck staging experience required.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and solve problems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; customer service approach.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate port truck staging to maintain traffic fluidity.
  • Operate and interpret CCTV and other monitoring systems in an OPS Centre.
  • Maintain relationships with VFPA security patrollers.
  • Escalate security issues per chain of command.
  • Support port operations planning with safety and environmental focus.
  • Communicate with internal/external customers by phone and written.
  • Use Port App, GPS Dashboard, and related tools to share messages.
  • Produce reports and disseminate information as required.
  • Glean operational intelligence and recommend proactive actions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

The logistics coordinator,land supports the planning and coordination of port operational activities specificto traffic management within VFPA’s jurisdiction during container terminal dayand night gates. Other key responsibilities include information gathering andinterpretation, anticipating emerging issues, taking or recommending proactiveaction and alerting the operations coordinator on shift to emerging security issues.Depending on operational needs, the logistics coordinator, Land provides assistancein the VFPA Operations Centeras dictated by container terminal operations.

What you do:

  • Coordinatesport truck staging operations to ensure fluidity on the port roads and theroads leading up to the port
  • Works with a variety oftechnical CCTV and other monitoring systems typical in an OperationsCentre environment.
  • Develops and maintainseffective relationships with VFPA security patrollers.
  • Escalatesemerging security issues per the established chain of command.
  • Supportsthe planning and coordination of port operations activities in conformity withport practices and procedures, adopting a holistic approach which encompassesaspects of safety and security and environmental protection.
  • Coordinatescommunication with internal and external customers on the phone and in writingin response to operational issues.Processes and prioritizes calls depending on operational requirements.
  • UsesTwitter, GPS Dashboard, DMS Boards and Port App to communicate access andincident messages.
  • Developsand maintains effective relationships with stakeholders and customers.
  • Producesreports, updates and disseminates information as required.
  • Gathersand interprets operational intelligence, anticipating emerging issues andtaking or recommending proactive action.
  • Performsother assigned duties as required.

What you bring:

High schoolgraduate with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in operations and/or logisticsalong with experience in security, safety and emergency incidents andissues. Experience with truck staging is required. Must be able toperform analysis of operational data and have good problem solving skills. Mustbe able to work under pressure and demonstrate the ability to use goodjudgment, make decisions, show initiative and take responsibility forsituations when required. Must have excellentcommunication and interpersonal skills with internal and external contacts. A customer service, results orientatedapproach.

  • Thisposition is required to provide scheduled vacation and time-off coveragefor both of the following positions:
  • LogisticsCoordinator, Land – Evenings
  • Mondayto Friday, 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm; and
  • LandLogistics Traffic Coordinator
  • Tuesdayto Saturday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm
