Job summary

Canfor in Cranbrook is seeking a Log Truck Driver to operate a logging truck safely across varying weather and terrain. You will perform pre-trip inspections, fuel, lube and wash, and communicate clearly via radio.

The role requires a Class One Driver’s License, ability to work long hours, and strong safety focus. You will drive short haul routes and join Cranbrook Seniority Division. The wage is $40.09 per hour as part of a dedicated team.

Qualifications

  • Must hold Class One Driver’s License.
  • Ability to furnish proof of certifications/licenses and provide a drivers abstract.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a log truck safely for long hours across varied weather, site, terrain and road conditions.
  • Perform pre-trip inspections and complete minor repairs including fueling, lubricating and washing the truck.
  • Physically fit with excellent mental focus.
  • Able to throw minimum of 6 wrappers per load and cinch.
  • Set and pull stakes and operate trailer hoist.
  • Hammer mark loads and tag loads at the scale.
  • Install tire chains in winter conditions when required.

Job description

You can effectively cope with change and “shift gears” comfortably. You speak clearly and concisely and can even be clearly understood when speaking on a “walkie talkie”. With your strong mental acuity, you can stay alert while driving for long periods of time and have the ability to comply with policies and procedures. Your teacher was wrong, you found a fantastic way to get paid to stare out the window!

As our Log Truck Driver, you are responsible for the safe operation of a logging truck within our Kootenay operations. You love both your own company and having the opportunity to play with trucks, so driving for long hours under varying weather, site, terrain and road conditions, won’t be a problem.

The life of a Log Truck Driver Includes:
  • -Driving for long hours under varying weather, site, terrain and road condition safely.
  • -Preform pre-trip inspection and complete minor repairs including fueling, lubing and washing truck
  • -Physically fit with excellent mental focus
  • -Able to throw minimum of 6 wrappers per load and cinch
  • -Set and pull stakes and operate trailer hoist
  • -Hammer mark the loads and tag loads at the scale
  • -Install tire chains in winter conditions when required
  • -Speak clearly and concisely when using a radio and communicate with various people throughout the day

For this role, you’ll come equipped with:

  • -Must Hold Class One Driver’s License
  • -Must be able to furnish proof of certifications/licenses and provide a drivers abstract
  • -Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • -Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • -Ability to analyze and troubleshoot
  • -Positive attitude and a self-starter
  • -Able to work in an environment that may include exposure to weather, dust, chemicals, moving mechanical parts, and noise.

You’re in this for the long haul(though only driving short haul routes). If the wheels are turning, you’re earning!

It is a Cranbrook Log Truck position, falling under the Cranbrook Seniority Division.

The hourly rate for this position is: $40.09
