Responsibilities

  • Safely operate power units with automatic or manual transmission.
  • Inspect vehicle safety, mechanical, and safety equipment before, during, and after trips.

  • Communicate with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Load orders and assist with loading/unloading as needed.
  • Maintain load securement and conduct routine vehicle maintenance.

Job description

The Truck Driver Class 1 is responsible for ensuring the delivery of quartz slabs in a safe and efficient manner. Being a main point of contact with the customers, great customer service skills are also required. Other duties would be assist material handlers to load orders on truck and ensuring truck is in optimal running condition. The successful candidate will be required to train and familiarize themselves in the Warehouse Operation prior to route/truck assignment.

Monday - Friday, 7am - 3:30pm (overtime required on an as needed basis)

$30 - $33/hour + bonus

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operating power unit equipped with multi-speed transmission (Automatic or Manual) safely by adhering to all safety requirements including Super Bs
  • Perform inspections of mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment of truck unit before, during, and after trips, including gauges, lighting and electrical systems, and visual checks of potential water, oil, fuel, and air leaks.
  • Completing all applicable paperwork. Maintain up-to-date Driver Log throughout the duration of each shift.
  • Responsible for communicating with both Customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with customers and co-workers in a professional manner.
  • Be able to perform physical work at times (lifting in excess of 50lbs)
  • Proficient in the use of Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs)
  • Observing and complying with rules and regulations of the Ministry of Transportation and the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding and adherence to DOT regulations. This may involve undergoing regular training to stay current with DOT compliance requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid A/Z driver’s license (Class 1*Q)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ verifiable truck driving experience
  • No driving related criminal code convictions in the previous 36 months
  • No more than 2 moving violations of any kind in the previous 12 months
  • No more than 3 moving violations in the previous 36 months
  • Must have excellent safety and compliance record
  • Must have excellent driving skills
  • Defensive Driving Course
  • Computer Literate
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with strong oral and written communication abilities
  • Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques
  • High level of personal integrity and strong work ethic
  • Professional/mature demeanor under stressful situations
  • Confident, consistent decisive personality
  • Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self‑directed
  • Able to work with tight deadlines in a multi-task, high priority environment
WORK CONDITIONS
  • May be required for driving for many hours at a stretch (within employment standards limitations), including unloading cargo, and making many deliveries.
  • Will be required to work both indoors and outdoors
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
  • Overtime as required with possible weekend work as required
  • Lifting in excess of 50lbs; ability to regularly preform physical movements:
  • Sitting – long and regular driving hours
  • handling/gripping - Handle tools and equipment; grip steering wheel and levers
  • climbing up and down stairs/ladders - Climb into cab; Climb onto vehicle to inspect load
  • stooping - Occasional stooping during pre- and post-trip inspections and when accessing under vehicle to perform low-inspections
  • Crouching - During pre- and post-trip inspections to access under vehicle, perform low-inspections
  • Push/Pull – pull safety straps to secure load on vehicle
