NETES is seeking an educator to deliver individualized literacy programming to adult learners in Winnipeg. The role develops Indigenous adult-appropriate materials and runs lessons for stage 1 learners, working one-on-one with beginners and promoting the program within the Indigenous community.

Who We Are

NETES is a not-for-profit Indigenous organization supporting the success of Indigenous people in Winnipeg. We offer adult education, skills training and employment services, along with wrap-around services such as daycare, student housing, and health and wellness programming. The Opportunity

The incumbent will be responsible for delivering individualized literacy programming to adult learners. This position will assist in the development of Indigenous adult-appropriate learning materials creating innovative learning opportunities, specifically developing and carrying out lessons for stage 1 learners, working one on one with beginning learners. The incumbent will promote the program while supporting the goals and objectives of the Negeenan Learning and Literacy Centre, the Negeenan Education, Training and Employment Services, and the Indigenous community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare subject material for presentation to students who need an individual/specific learning plan
  • Work collaboratively with staff members to deliver lesson plans to level 1 students
  • Prepare and implement remedial programs for Level 1 students
  • Deliver lesson plans/activities using a systematic plan of lectures, discussions, audio-visual presentations, and laboratory, and field studies
  • Assign and correct homework
  • Prepare, administer and correct tests
  • Determine with individual students, their learning needs, plans, goals and objectives
  • Evaluate and assess student progress and discuss results with students and school officials
  • Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences and instructor training workshops
  • Participate in the planning and coordination of school events and activities
Qualifications
  • Relevant post-secondary education (degree or diploma); an acceptable combination of education and experience may also be considered
  • Demonstrated expertise in the field of instruction, specifically with literacy learners, is an asset. Additional courses in teaching or a provincial literacy training may be required
Experience and Skills
  • Superior skills in team leadership, verbal and written communication, time management, critical thinking, decision making, and organizational management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, internet use, and web-related technologies
  • Professional work ethic and the ability to exercise good judgment when dealing with challenging situations
  • Knowledge and understanding of Winnipeg’s urban Indigenous community

NETES requires a clear and satisfactory Criminal Record Check prior to the start of employment. All checks must be dated within three (3) months of the start date.
