Qualifications

NETES is a not-for-profit Indigenous organization supporting the success of Indigenous people in Winnipeg. We offer adult education, skills training and employment services, along with wrap-around services such as daycare, student housing, and health and wellness programming. Rooted in community, respect, and Indigenous values, our work helps build a strong, thriving Indigenous community.

The Opportunity

In partnership with University College of the North, NETES is seeking dedicated and experienced Instructors to join an exciting community-based, Indigenous-focused Bachelor of Education program that provides Indigenous adult learners with an accessible pathway to earning a B.Ed. degree.

The program provides students a holistic approach to education, allowing students to remain connected to their families, communities and cultural supports.

NETES is seeking Instructors to deliver assigned courses and create engaging, culturally respectful learning environments that incorporate Indigenous perspectives, ways of knowing and diverse approaches to teaching and learning.

This is an opportunity to help increase access to teacher education, strengthen Indigenous representation in the teaching profession, and support the success of Indigenous learners and communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, student-centred instruction in accordance with approved curriculum and course outcomes.
• Prepare lesson plans, learning activities, and instructional materials required to deliver assigned course.
• Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback.
• Maintain required attendance, assessment, and constructive feedback.
• Provide academic guidance and support to promote student learning and success.
• Incorporate Indigenous perspectives, ways of knowing, and culturally relevant approaches into course delivery.
• Foster a culturally respectful, inclusive, and supportive adult-learning environment.

• Collaborate with B. Ed Program Coordinator, other instructors, UCN and relevant community and educational partners.
• Participate in required program meetings and activities associated with the assigned course.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in education or relevant subject field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
• Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience in Indigenous Communities or Organizations or provincial public school (K -12)
• Hold a Manitoba Teaching Certificate or equivalent from another comparable jurisdiction
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s license as travel is required
• Satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check
• Safety in Schools Certificate
• Candidates must be a Canadian Citizen and Permanent Resident of Canada

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Commitment to lifelong learning and the educational and professional success of Indigenous teacher candidates.
• Demonstrated experience teaching in Bachelor of Education, post-secondary, adult education, or community-based education programs.
• Strong knowledge of teacher education, including curriculum development, instructional methods, assessment, classroom management, and practicum preparation.
• Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, perspectives, ways of knowing, and approaches to teaching and learning.
• Experience working with Indigenous adult learners and an understanding of barriers they may experience within education systems.
• Ability to create a supportive, culturally respectful, inclusive, and student-centred learning environment that responds to diverse learning needs.
• Ability to provide academic guidance, mentoring, and constructive feedback to support student development and success.
• Strong classroom facilitation, presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to develop effective lesson plans, instructional materials, assignments, assessments, and learning activities aligned with established course outcomes.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with program staff, universities, school divisions, practicum schools, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community partners.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
