Job description

Join to apply for the Linux Administrator role at West Fraser.

West Fraser is seeking an experienced Linux Administrator to join our Systems Administration team full-time, permanently. In this role, you will develop, optimize, and support our enterprise-wide Linux server infrastructure. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to system administration. This position can be located in Quesnel, Vancouver, or Memphis.

Core Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain Linux server environments across the organization.
  • Enhance system security through audits, patch management, and hardening.
  • Optimize server performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Monitor systems proactively and respond to alerts to prevent issues.
  • Collaborate with IT teams on infrastructure initiatives.
  • Create and maintain documentation for configurations and procedures.
  • Provide technical support and leadership to junior team members.
Technical Requirements
  • Expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Linux, HP-UX, and CentOS.
  • Proficiency with Red Hat OpenShift and container orchestration.
  • Scripting skills in Bash, Python, Ansible, and Terraform.
  • Experience with CUPS (Common Unix Printing System).
  • Security experience, including vulnerability remediation and audits.
  • Design, implement, and troubleshoot complex Linux systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with VMware virtualization.
  • Knowledge of version control systems like CVS and SVN.
  • Cloud platform experience (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Post-secondary education in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of enterprise Linux administration experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset.
