Job summary

Leduc County is seeking an experienced Light Equipment Operator to support the maintenance of municipal roads, right-of-ways, properties and facilities year round. This role includes night driving duties in winter and operation of various light equipment.

You will assist in repairs, inspections and traffic management while adhering to safety guidelines and county policies. The position offers a competitive hourly wage and full benefits, with a 40-hour work week and potential extended hours.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain equipment.
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license with trailer towing experience.
  • A Class 3 license and experience running heavy equipment (wheel-loader, track, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Performs tasks to support daily operation and maintenance of municipal roads, rights-of-ways and facilities.
  • Repairs patches municipal gravel, cold mix, and hot mix surfaced roads.
  • Clears roadways and rights-of-ways of debris and obstructions.
  • Maintains roadway signs, rural address signs and culverts.
  • Inspects and maintains municipal shops, yards, parking lots, sidewalks and properties.
  • Operates light equipment (mowers, tractors, skid steer, etc.).
  • Participates in night driving during winter months and in snow removal operations.

Leduc County is looking for an experienced and highlymotivated Light Equipment Operator to join our team. Reporting to the AreaForeman, this exciting opportunity performs various labourer, duties andoperates light equipment to support the maintenance of municipal roads,right-of-ways, properties, facilities, equipment and other municipalinfrastructure year round as well as night driver duties in the winter months.The Light Equipment Operator is a key contributor to the achievement of thedepartment’s operational deliverables.

What you will do
  • Performs various tasks to support the dailyoperation and maintenance of municipal roads, right-of-ways and facilities.
  • Repairs and patches municipal gravel, coldmix, and hot mix surfaced roads.
  • Clears roadways and right-of-ways of debrisand obstructions.
  • Maintains roadway signs, rural addresssigns and culverts.
  • Inspects and maintains municipal shops,yards, parking lots, sidewalks, and other properties as required.
  • Supports shop mechanics and equipmentmaintenance activities.
  • Operates light equipment, including but notlimited to, mowers, tractors, skid steer loader, air compressor, aerialmanlift, compaction equipment, light and medium duty trucks, and any otherlight equipment used for operational purposes.
  • Performs daily maintenance on equipmentused for operational purposes.
  • Patrols the county’s road network at nightto perform routine road condition inspection during severe weather andreport the areas that require maintenance.
  • Rotational night driver for wintermaintenance program.

o Patrols county roads from November to April, identifying and reportingareas that need snow removal and grading services.

  • Advises Area Foreman of road andinfrastructure issues that require attention.
  • Provides traffic accommodation such asflagging and signage required for gravelling, dust control, construction,and maintenance activities.
  • Assists in collecting traffic data byundertaking manual traffic counts and by installing and removing portabletraffic counters as directed.
  • Adheres to guidelines as set out in LeducCounty’s policies and administrative directives.
  • Accountable for working in compliance withthe Alberta Occupational Health andSafety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health,Safety and Wellness Program.
  • Performs related duties as required.
What you need to succeed
Must-have

· Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain equipment, andgeneral mechanical abilities.

· A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license with trailer towingexperience.

Nice to have

· Completion of high school diploma (preferred).

· Familiarity with County operations and knowledge of ruralcommunities.

· A Class 3 license and experience running heavy equipment (i.e.wheel-loader, track or loader backhoe, or grader).
