Duties

As part of our fun and dynamic team, you will actively supervise outdoor pools, providing emergency care when necessary, and assist in the day-to-day cleaning and minor maintenance of the facilities. Ultimately our goal is to provide a safe aquatic environment and a Quality Visitor Experience for guests of the Park. Miette Hot Springs is a fast paced, challenging and engaging work environment.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff positions at Miette Hot Springs in Jasper National Park for a variety of season lengths and tenures (temporary / indeterminate, full-time / part-time / casual). Interviews will be done on an on-going basis

A list of qualified candidates will be established, and may be used to fill similar positions of various tenures (temporary / indeterminate, full-time / part-time / casual) in other work locations.

EDUCATION :

Secondary school diploma or Public Service Commission approved alternative.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION :

  • Current National Lifeguard (NL) Certification or International Life Saving Federation Pool Lifeguard equivalent certification ()
  • Current Standard (Intermediate) First Aid with level 'C' CPR certification from an approved agency or International Red Cross / St. John’s Ambulance First Aid certification

EXPERIENCE :

  • Experience providing information and service to the public;
  • Experience working in a team environment.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ADDITIONAL OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATIONS :

  • Advanced First Aid awards;
  • Swimming Pool Operators certification;
  • Valid driver’s license.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE :

  • Previous lifeguarding experience;
  • Previous experience in cash handling;
  • Previous experience in janitorial cleaning.

  • Ability to provide a quality visitor experience;
  • Ability to follow established practices and procedures as well as to adapt them to changing circumstances and conditions.

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE :

  • Knowledge of Public swimming pool facility safety and supervision standards;
  • Knowledge of Canadian Rockies Hot Springs facilities and surrounding areas.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Willingness to use SCBA equipment and work with chlorine gas and other pool chemicals;
  • Willingness to obtain Oxygen Therapy Certification within 3-months of appointment;
  • Willingness to perform a variety of work tasks including; cleaning, snow removal, cash handling, pool and ground maintenance;
  • Willingness to perform major first aid and water rescues under reasonable physical stresses.
  • Willingness to obtain Canadian Life Saving Society National Lifeguard (NL) Certification and Current Standard First Aid with level 'C' CPR certification from an approved agency in Canada within 3 months of appointment if applying with International Life Saving Federation Pool Lifeguard equivalent certification and / or International Red Cross / St. John’s Ambulance First Aid certification.

Conditions of employment

  • You are required to obtain and maintain a Reliability security clearance level throughout this employment at Parks Canada Agency
  • You must be willing to work overtime
  • You will be required to work shift-work, and / or weekends, and / or statutory holidays and provincial / territorial holidays as scheduled by your delegated manager
  • You may be required to wear a uniform while performing your duties
  • You must be willing to work and travel in a variety of terrains and weather conditions in the performance of the duties
  • You are required to undergo and meet requirements for a pre-placement and periodic health evaluation as outlined in Parks Canada Occupational Health Monitoring Program
  • Maintenance of occupational certifications
