Job summary

The City of Delta seeks enthusiastic Lifeguard/Instructor at Winskill Aquatic & Fitness Centre to educate on pool rules, supervise aquatic activities and provide first aid when required. You will lead instructional and recreational programs for all ages and share progress with participants and their families.

Ideal candidates hold NL Pool option, Lifesaving Swim Instructor, and CPR C certifications, with first aid readiness and a Grade 10 or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Sound knowledge of lifesaving, artificial respiration and first aid.
• Knowledge of teaching methods and group leadership for water safety and aquatic skills.
• Knowledge of pool chemistry, filtration, heating and related equipment and procedures.
• Ability to display and teach aquatic skills to required standards.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, staff and patrons.
• Ability to prepare and maintain records relating to the work.

Job description

The City of Delta is seeking enthusiastic and safety focused individuals to join the team at Winskill Aquatic & Fitness Centre as a Lifeguard/Instructor. Lifeguard/Instructors educate on pool rules; perform minor maintenance tasks; provide first aid treatment; lead instructional and recreational aquatic programs for all age ranges and to provide information to the public regarding swimmer progress and instructional evaluation techniques

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Sound knowledge of the theory and practice of lifesaving, artificial respiration and first aid.
• Working knowledge of teaching methods and group leadership techniques emphasizing instruction in water safety and aquatic skills.
• Working knowledge of pool chemistry, of water filtration, chlorination, heating and related pool equipment and procedures.
• Ability to display sound aquatic skills and to instruct in these skills at standards set by relevant authorities.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, employees and patrons.
• Ability to prepare and maintain records relating to the work.

Qualifications:

• National Lifeguard Award – Pool Option (NL)
• Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification
• Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Level C current within one year (CPR C)
• Minimum age of sixteen (16) years.
• Completion of Grade 10 and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience is an asset.

The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $27.04 - $31.66 per hour (2024 rates) + 12% in lieu of vacation, public holidays and benefits.

November 30, 2026 - Lifeguard/Instructor Wet/Dry Interview - Applicants must be available to attend this session. Applicants will be shortlisted and invited to attend this session.
