Job summary

Health PEI seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Surgery/Restorative Care unit at Prince County Hospital, Summerside. This full-time 100% temporary position begins immediately and runs through November 2026.

You will provide basic nursing care, support care plans, and collaborate with the RN and health-care team. The successful candidate must be registered or eligible with the PEI College of Nursing & Midwifery, hold current CPR and WHMIS certifications, and have experience in acute or

• Must be capable of sustained physical activity.
• Must have successful completion of Pharmacology, Medication Administration and Health Assessment.
• Current CPR, WHMIS All Hazards Codes, and annual re-certifications.
• Surgery/Restorative care experience is preferred.
• Acute care experience is preferred.

• Participate in education programs and staff meetings.
• Act as a preceptor to students and practicing nurses by sharing nursing experiences.
• Recognize and respond to situations where other members of the health care team require assistance.

The Licensed Practical Nurse provides basic nursing care necessary for the comfort and well-being of the patient; performs various treatment procedures; participates in the development and implementation of the nursing care plan; applies Infection Control techniques; and performs other related and allied duties which contribute to the orderly and efficient operation of the departments.The Licensed Practical Nurse performs these duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Duties

• Participate in education programs and staff meetings
• Act as a preceptor to students, beginning practitioners and practicing nurses by sharing specialized nursing experiences
• Recognize and respond to situations where other members of the health care team require assistance
• Participates, and effectively communicate with the nursing and allied health care team.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Active or eligible for registration with the Prince Edward Island College of Nursing & Midwifery.
• Must be capable of sustained physical activity.
• Must have successful completion of the Pharmacology, Medication Administration and Health Assessment.
• Must have a good previous work and attendance record.
• Current in CPR, TLR, WHIMIS All Hazards Codes, and annual re-certifications
• Must demonstrate application of knowledge of client’s physical, psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual needs
• Must have knowledge of chronic illnesses

Other Qualifications:

• Surgery/Restorative care experience is preferred.
• Acute care experience is preferred.
• Demonstrate honesty and integrity which aligns with the organizational mission, vision, and values.
• Demonstrate a professional presence and model professional behavior;
• Additional relevant education and experience would be considered an asset.

Salary Range: $32.42 - $38.67 per hour

Bi-Weekly Hours: 75 Hours Bi-Weekly / Rotating Shifts
