Job summary

Health PEI is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse at Hillsborough Hospital, Mental Health and Addictions Campus, Charlottetown, PEI. This part-time (70%) permanent role reports to the Unit Nurse Manager and commences immediately.

Incentives include external nursing incentives up to $5,000, relocation assistance, and student loan incentives up to $8,000. Salary range is $32.42–$38.67 per hour, bi-weekly hours 52.5.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of an approved course of study for Licensed Practical Nurses.
• Active or eligible for registration with the Prince Edward Island College of Nursing and Midwifery.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Knowledge of chronic illnesses.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients in withdrawal and monitor for withdrawal seizures, DTs and hallucinations.
• Assist with admissions and discharges.
• Provide personal cares to assigned patient list per shift.
• Administer medications and observe patient responses.
• Monitor and observe 72-hour/committal patients and safety.
• Maintain a therapeutic milieu for patient growth.
• Support in implementing the case plan during recovery.
• Document client notes and update team at shift changes.
• Transport patients to sessions and appointments with in-house doctor.

The Licensed Practical Nurse will assist the Registered Nurse in caring for addicted patients and helping these patients develop a case plan to improve their lifestyle. The position reports to the Nurse Manager of the Unit.

Duties will include but not limited to:

• assessing patients in withdrawal, observing for signs and symptoms of withdrawal seizures, DTs and hallucinations;
• assisting with admissions and discharges;
• providing personal cares to an assigned patient list during each shift;
• administrating medication, and observing and reporting patient reaction and response to treatments and medication;
• monitoring and observing 72 hour /committal patients, making it safer for other patients and preventing unexpected absence without leave attempts;
• helping maintain a therapeutic milieu for growth of patients;
• assisting in the implementation of the case plan through encouraging and supporting clients with the recovery process;
• daily documentation of client notes and keeping other team members informed of progress or issues at shift change.
• transporting patients to various sessions and taking patients to appointments with the in-house doctor;
• performing other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Successful completion of an approved course of study for Licensed Practical Nurses.
• Active or eligible for registration with the Prince Edward Island College of Nursing and Midwifery.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Demonstrate application of knowledge of client’s physical, psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual needs; which includes clients with chronic illnesses
• Demonstrate an alignment with Health PEI’s mission, vision, and values; including honesty and integrity in personal and professional behavior
• Current CPR/BCLS, TLR, WHIMIS All Hazards Codes; and annual recertifications
• Demonstrate a professional presence and model professional behavior
• Knowledge of chronic illnesses required
• Effective communication skills with staff, patients and families.
• Capable of sustained physical activity.
• Have a good previous work and attendance record.

Other Qualifications:

• Previous experience in chemical dependency would be considered an asset.
• Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.

External Candidates may be eligible to receive a $5,000 Nursing Incentive, up to $8,000 Student Loan Incentive and Relocation Assistance.

Salary Range: $32.42 - $38.67 per hour

Bi-Weekly Hours: 52.5 Hours Bi-Weekly / 11.25 Days and Nights / Rotating Weekends.
