Licensed Practical Nurse - Renal Dialysis

We have an exciting opportunity for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Renal Dialysis within the Alberta Kidney Care – North (AKC-N) program.A Designated Float Licensed Practical Nurse – Renal Dialysis supports the staffing needs of Alberta Kidney Care – North for vacant shifts due to planned or unplanned staff absences. You will support the relief staffing needs at 7 sites. Flexibility to meet the ever-changing relief needs of the program is essential in this position.As a member of the multi-disciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse - Renal Dialysis is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Decisions are made in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The LPN – Renal Dialysis provides patient and family centered care to acute and chronic renal failure patient populations. The Licensed Practical Nurse - Renal Dialysis will practice within the guidelines and philosophy of AKC-N. You will be encouraged and expected to work at your full scope of practice and to perform a variety of nursing duties in accordance with current policies and nursing care standards. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program.Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years of recent (within the last 2 years) medical-surgical nursing experience is required. Physical Assessment, IV Therapy and Medication Administration courses are required. Advanced Practice Standards 3-10 & 16-17 required. These can be found in the Competency Profile for Licensed Practical Nurses – 5th Edition on the CLPNA website.Successful candidate must be able to lift 40 pounds (18kg). Basic computer skills are required. The AKC-N program requires candidates to complete/pass hemodialysis training. Hemodialysis training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer depending on availability. Hemodialysis orientation will take 6 weeks: 4 weeks of on-unit training and 2 weeks of buddy shifts (or equivalent hours). A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to buddy shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with current (within 12 months) hemodialysis or nephrology experience.
