Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking an Orthopaedic Technician (Ortho Tech) to apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment for orthopaedic patients within the Emergency department. You will observe, monitor, and document changes in patients’ condition while delivering safe, quality care in line with the LPN scope of practice.

The role includes providing patient- and family-centered care and reflecting AHS values in daily operations.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program.
  • Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA).
  • Completion of an accredited specialty Orthopaedic Technician program.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Responsibilities

  • Apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints, and traction equipment for orthopaedic patients.
  • Observe, monitor, and report changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
  • Document changes and provide safe, high-quality, patient- and family-centered care.
  • Work within the LPN scope of practice in an emergency department setting.

Your Opportunity

As an Orthopaedic Technician (Ortho Tech), you will apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of Orthopaedic patients (clients, residents). You will observe, monitor, report and document changes in the patient's physical, mental and emotional state, while providing safe and effective, quality care while working to your full LPN scope of practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in an Emergency Department.
  • Previous experience in an Acute Care, Cast clinic, Med/Surg or ICU department.
