Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking an experienced Licensed Practical Nurse in Sturgeon Community Hospital to join the Operating Room team. You will support safe patient care with scrub and circulating duties in a fast-paced surgical suite, aligned with standards and the organization's values.

You must hold an accredited LPN program, be eligible for CLHA registration, and have BCLS-HCP. OR experience and ability to work day/evening/night, weekends, and on‑call shifts are required.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program.
• Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications

• Previous operating room experience including scrub and circulating functions in a Surgical Suite setting is required.
• Perioperative course is required or a minimum of 2 years current experience in the scrub/circulatory role within a Surgical Suite.
• Current experience is defined as working in a OR setting within the past 2 years.
• The ability to cope and effectively perform in stressful and/or emergency situations is essential.
• The incumbent must possess leadership and decision-making ability and be able to exercise sound judgement and use initiative.
• Good interpersonal and public relations skills as well as good communication skills, oral and written are essential.
• Good organization and coordination skills required.
• The position is very physically demanding.
• Must be able to lift, pull, and push more than 25 lbs.
• There is a lot of above shoulder requirement for prepping and positioning of patients.

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent peri-operative nursing experience with General Surgery.
• Orthopedics and OB /GYN is an asset.
