Job summary

Interior Health is seeking an experienced Licensed Practical Nurse to join the Perioperative team at Vernon Jubilee Hospital in Vernon, BC. The role involves providing practical nursing services in the operating room as part of a surgical team and supporting pre-, intra-, and post-operative care.

This relief part-time position offers varied shifts and opportunities to contribute to patient care within a comprehensive benefits program offered by IH.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses with the full range of current licensed practical nursing competencies
• Graduation from an accredited O.R. program for Licensed Practical Nurses
• One (1) year recent related experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in acute care or equivalent education/training/experience

Responsibilities

• Provides practical nursing services in an operating room environment as a member of an integrated surgical team performing varied surgical interventions
• Confers with the surgical team to facilitate safe and effective surgical interventions through scrubbing and circulating duties
• Participates in pre-operative, operative, and post-operative activities including assessment, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting client care

About the Job

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN):

• Provides practical nursing services in an operating room environment as a member of an integrated surgical team performing varied surgical interventions.
• Consults, confers, and collaborates with other members of the surgical team in facilitating safe and effective surgical interventions through the performance of scrubbing and circulating duties in accordance with established standards and protocols.
• Participates in pre-operative, operative, and post-operative activities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting client care, and providing support to clients and their families.

This is a Relief Part-time (0.87FTE) opportunity ending March 14, 2028 or until the return of incumbent.

Shifts of work will be scheduled days, evenings and nights rotating from 07:30 to 16:00, 09:00 to 17:30, 14:00 to 22:30, 15:30 to 00:00, 00:00 to 07:30 hours.

About this Location

VJH is a regional care facility where you will find five beautiful, large, totally integrated operative theatres. The OR’s are supported by the new Pre-Surgical Screening, Surgical Day Care area, ten monitored Recovery Bays and a new Medical Device Reprocessing area. Four of the operating theatres provide the following services: general surgery, urology (laser), gynecology/obstetrics, ENT (laser), dental, and orthopedics/spinal. The fifth operating theatre opens several times a month to provide local cystoscopy services. In addition, there is a separate vision center with an operating theatre located in Armstrong that performs cataract surgery. There is a case cart delivery system and Vocera as a communication tool. Perioperative records are online and the Alex Gold instrument tracking system was implemented and currently all joint prostheses are being bar coded.

Qualfications

• Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses with the full range of current licensed practical nursing competencies, and graduation from an accredited O.R. program for Licensed Practical Nurses plus one (1) year recent related experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in acute care, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Current full practicing licensure with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
• Current CPR certification required
