Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized Practical Nurse program or equivalent education.
  • Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as an LPN.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and respectful nursing care per policies and individualized care plans.
  • Conduct thorough assessments, monitor signs/symptoms, and communicate with the RN/RPN as needed.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, transfers, and admissions with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Administer medications per protocol, monitor effects, and communicate with the team.
  • Use evidence-based resources to stay updated on nursing practices.
  • Respond to incidents such as codes, injuries, spills, and alarms according to procedures.
  • Assist with staff orientation, demonstrating procedures and providing support.
  • Address patient/resident and family learning needs, provide educational materials, and make referrals.
  • Attend care planning meetings, provide input, and advocate for patients/residents.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and evaluate individualized care plans.
  • Assist with discharge planning based on patient status and external supports.

The salary range for this position is CAD $32.84/Hr. - CAD $41.35/Hr.

Summary

Under the guidance of the Resident Care Manager and in close collaboration with a diverse healthcare team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) delivers top-notch nursing care to long-term care residents in addition to providing emotional comfort and support to residents and families. LPNs in long-term care have the unique opportunity to build deep and lasting relationships with residents/families/caregivers, collaborate with a compassionate and knowledgeable interdisciplinary care team, and contribute to an overall sense of "home" for residents.

Opened in 1991, St. Vincent's Langara is a three-story facility featuring a spacious atrium on the main floor. This atrium leads to a charming patio, complete with gardening areas for residents to enjoy. Additionally, the serene atmosphere is enhanced by a peaceful chapel adorned with beautiful stained glass windows.

Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratio

Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPR) set the minimum number of nurses required to safely care for patients on a given unit. Developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses' Union (BCNU), and health organizations across British Columbia, mNPR provides a consistent and transparent approach to staffing that supports safe nursing practice and high-quality patient care. What You Bring

Education:

  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant
  • Current basic cardiac life support certification

Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position

Your Day to Day

  • Assist with staff orientation, demonstrating procedures and providing support
  • Address patient/resident and family learning needs, provide educational materials, and make referrals
  • Attend care planning meetings, provide input, and advocate for patients/residents
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and evaluate individualized care plans
  • Assist with discharge planning based on patient status and external supports
  • Operate and clean equipment, report malfunctions, and handle hazardous materials. Perform clerical duties such as answering phones, faxing, and maintaining records
