Job summary

Providence Health Care is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to deliver high-quality nursing care to long-term care residents. You will collaborate with a diverse healthcare team and provide emotional comfort to patients and families. Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized Practical Nurse program or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must be registered with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant.
  • Current certification in basic cardiac life support is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and respectful nursing care according to established policies and care plans.
  • Conduct thorough assessments and communicate with the RN/RPN as needed.
  • Administer medications and monitor effects as per protocols.

Job description

The salary range for this position is CAD $32.84/Hr. - CAD $41.35/Hr.

The hours of work, including start and stop times, days off, work area and work site may be subject to change consistent with operations requirements and applicable provisions of the Collective Agreement and statutes.

Testing may be required. A criminal record check may be required.

Under the guidance of the Resident Care Manager and in close collaboration with a diverse healthcare team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) delivers top‑notch nursing care to long‑term care residents in addition to providing emotional comfort and support to residents and their families. LPNs in long‑term care have the unique opportunity to build deep and lasting relationships with residents, families, and caregivers, collaborate with a compassionate and knowledgeable interdisciplinary care team, and contribute to an overall sense of “home” for residents.

Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPR) set the minimum number of nurses required to safely care for patients on a given unit. Developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU), and health organizations across British Columbia, mNPR provides a consistent and transparent approach to staffing that supports safe nursing practice and high-quality patient care. Education
  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Your Day to Day
  • Provide safe and respectful nursing care, adhering to established policies, individualized care plans, and priorities
  • Conduct thorough assessments, monitor signs/symptoms, and communicate with the RN/RPN as needed
  • Prepare patients for procedures, transfers, and admissions, coordinating with the interdisciplinary team
  • Administer medications per protocol, monitor effects, and maintain communication with the team
  • Utilize evidence-based resources to stay updated on nursing practices
  • Respond to incidents such as codes, injuries, spills, and alarms, following procedures
  • Assist with staff orientation, demonstrating procedures and providing support
  • Address patient/resident and family learning needs, provide educational materials, and make referrals
  • Attend care planning meetings, provide input, and advocate for patients/residents
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and evaluate individualized care plans
  • Assist with discharge planning based on patient status and external supports
  • Operate and clean equipment, report malfunctions, and handle hazardous materials. Perform clerical duties such as answering phones, faxing, and maintaining records
